the way i understand it, stealth firmware just makes sure that the disc is burned correctly. if i use abgx360 to check the disc, and it passes all checks, i should be just as well off with non stealth firmware as with the steath version, right?

not necessarily. if ur using a much older version of fw, there are other security features missing besides simple stealth precautions, such as disk jitter/splitvid/bad angle. the safest route is using ixtreme 1.6, especially if you are stealth checking ur backups. If you don't care about live, then it doesnt really matter.
