I have successfully sorted my benq...very easy!

But im trying my Hitachi 47 with no luck.
Im using the via sata vt6421 with drivers deleted, i have portio32 installed, using jungleflasher 0.1.65b.
I can get on dvdkey32 to see the drive when selecting via ports only, then i go to the hitachi tab and can send mode b and that works.

"Mode-B Done!"

But i cant read from source, i believe this is because there is no entry in the 'Drive' but am not sure.
It comes up:

"Dumping f/w of Hitachi 0046/0047 by Ram Upload Method over Port IO
Ram Poke Failed"

I'm not sure if it's just me but the hitachi drive is the only drive where i need the via drivers installed to get it done. With the drivers installed i use the "WIN API" method and it works every time. All other 360 drives i completely remove all drivers for my via sata card. Again, this is what works for me but hell, what do you have to loose? Try it....

Guessing you mean win api = windows interface, so i connected the drive to my onboard sata and it sees it and goes into mode b but again still not seeing the drive letter, and it installs the drive as well.

firmware toolbox v4.8.

you need to load all your firmware into it by opening it with toolbox as it dont have 1.51 built in.

How are you powering the drive??

if your using the xtractor pro, eject tray and insert any original game and close tray with eject button this will automatically put it in mode B.

once WIN detects the game it will prompt to play the movie, just click cancel.

you can not use JF to mode B and then firmware toolbox 4.8 to read it, it just wont do it.

it may be best if you boot slax on your PC first, to get mode B if you do not have a power adapter to setup mode B for you.

FWT 4.8 usage: (if already flashed you MUST restore before going to newer version or you will brick it)
DIRECT DRIVE DUMP (GDR ONLY)
MAKE SURE DRIVE IS LISTED IN TOP DROP DOWN BOX (MINE IS D)
SELECT RAW DUMP FIRMWARE AS
SAVE AS (ORIG.BIN) IN A FOLDER ON YOUR DESKTOP
CLICK YES TO OPEN IT E.C.T
ALSO MAKE NOTE OF "Key information: (@[address])"
E.G (FOR HITACHI 7 78-4b00 78-4c30 78-4d20 78-4e10
(If virgin, open orig.bin in JF and create the ix1.51 and save in same location as orig.bin)
CLICK on FILE, OPEN, selct the HIT CFW
NOW CLICK ONTO TOOLS
DIRECT DRIVE FLASH (PATCH)
HIT READ AND DETECT DIFFERENCES (on 59 and below tick mark use classic mode)
THEN START FLASHING

to restore to original state:
DIRECT DRIVE DUMP (GDR ONLY)
MAKE SURE DRIVE IS LISTED IN TOP DROP DOWN BOX (MINE IS D)
SELECT RAW DUMP FIRMWARE AS
SAVE AS (old.bin) IN A FOLDER ON YOUR DESKTOP
CLICK YES TO OPEN IT E.C.T
THEN COPY THE DRIVE KEY DISPLAYED IN TOOLBOX
ALSO MAKE NOTE OF "Key information: (@[address])"
E.G (FOR HITACHI 7 78-4b00 78-4c30 78-4d20 78-4e10
THEN OPEN YOUR ORIG.BIN
NOW CLICK ONTO TOOLS
DIRECT DRIVE FLASH (GDR ONLY)
THEN ONTO DIFERENTIAL FLASH (RESTORE)
HIT READ AND DETECT DIFFERENCES
THEN START FLASHING

well if i try to set checksum it still says no drive selected as i have no drive in the space for drive...and if i manually type the drive letter or anything it still doesnt work.
