My bad, is it going to sda1 because it is sata?
I will be at going to work soon and i will give it a try.

On a side note does hdm2 beta allow you to manually type in the file directory? If I can get it formatted that would be half the battle. Locking it can probably be done using a manufacture start up utility.

I tried it on a different computer at work to see if the motherboard may have had something to do with where the hard drive was assigned. And it did the same thing.

So what I am thinking from my research online is that it is being labeled as sda1 because it is a sata hard drive. Now i could use the older version which is 2.0 alpha and i could enter the destination accordingly but than there is the problem of not knowing if it will lock. I will not be able to try this until sometime sunday night. But since the xbox does not read sata drives i have purchased a sata to ide adapter and what I am thinking is that by hooking the hard drive up to this adapter than through ide on a mobo that when I boot 2.1 off my flash that it will register the hard drive as hda1 since it is connecting through ide. Unless it can still identify it as sata through the device details. So thoughts on this?

Yes, you are right. Sata devices are seen as scsi devices through libata in linux. I wasn't aware of that previously. Nevertheless your suggestions are valid and you could try them. I have just one more idea to add - you could try forcing IDE legacy mode in your motherboard bios.

Please report back on your results so that others know what to do.

Maybe it's a dumb question, but I was wondering if I am supposed to follow the 2 steps(install acronis) of the grub4dos instructions? or just the first one of grub4dos?

i get a remove discs and press any key to restart message.

Nice to know you're still around ldots.

That's pretty much what I figured.

Hmmmm, I did do that and didn't end up with a bootable drive apparently. It's most likely due to an error. I'll remake it again and see how it goes from there.

1. How is xbox modded? Chipped or softmod?
2. What is the relevance of the bios modification to the topic?
3. The softmod (via the kernel patcher/bios loader) or bios on the chip's bank needs to have LBA48 support.

Ive got a computer that doesnt boot from the USB so Im trying to use the grub_cdkicker. I boot up the computer with the CD in it I am able to get to the slax xboxhdm2 menu. When I select slax xboxhdm2 I get an error of:

find --set-root /kernel.sys
error 15: file not found

Whats going wrong here? Ive got the usb drive plugged in but the CD doesnt seem to want to kick it to the USB drive. Ive tested booting the usb drive by itself on my laptop and it boots right up into slax no problem so Im thinking the USB drive is not the problem. When I try to use the CD kicker on my laptop I still get that same error 15 even though I know the USB can boot when used alone.

Press c to get a grub command prompt at the boot menu. Type
CODE
find (
followed by [tab] key. scullc pioneered the multibooting stuff. Google for grub4dos guide for more hints.

Any reason why you need/are using xboxhdm2.1 rather than xboxhdm1.9?

Ive got a softmoded XBox and I'm trying to format a 1.5 TB SATA hard drive so I can use that in the Xbox. Im using a SATA to IDE adapter in the computer on the primary IDE cable and xboxhdm1.9 recognizes the SATA hard drive so Im good up to that point. However when I go to format the SATA drive it wont allow me to create an F partition. It creates a C and E but but it doesnt ask me if I want an F. If I try to create an F partition from the main menu I get a prompt the hard drive is full. I was going to try xboxhdm2.1 to see if I had any better luck.

You are better off running xbpartitioner 1.1 off the xbox rather than xboxhdm1.9/2.1 to create F partition on a hdd of that size.

That's basically what I was going to do. I was going to initially format with xboxhdm1.9 to make sure all the partitions were there and everything was formatted then once I had the Xbox up and running use xbpartitioner 1.1 to repartition F with the proper cluster size. Wouldnt xboxhdm1.9 telling me the disk was full be a sign something didnt go right?

Not really. xboxhdm1.9 or for that matter any xbox linux like xboxhdm2.1 cannot really handle a 1.5Tb hdd beyond creating the standard xbox partitions. Use xbpartitioner for that purpose.
