Okay sorry about bringing up yet another thread about HDD swapping, but just hopefully a quick and easy set of questions:

1) Difference between 5400 & 7200, is there any real difference once inside the XBOX?

2) Same would go for buffer size (2-8MB) any difference here in opperation?

2) Any models / brands that are particularly problematic when installing / preparing?

3) In a nutshell, which of these should I get (noise & heat, the less the better)
Maxtor 6Y120I0 (120/7200)
Maxtor 6Y120P0 (120/7200)
Maxtor 4R120I0 (120/5400)
Samsung SV1204H (120/5400)
Seagate ST3120023A (120/7200)
Western Digital WD1200AB (120/5400)
Western Digital WD1200BB (120/7200)
Western Digital WD1200BBRTL (120/7200)
Western Digital WD1200JB (120/7200)
Western Digital WD1200JBRTL (120/7200)

Thanx for taking the time to read this.

I found there to be a little difference between 5400 and 7200 but not a whole lot, havent seen a difference between 2-8meg buffers, still testing this one. I've installed about 15 WD 120gig 7200 with no problems with heat, speed locking or otherwise....I'm sure other have a lot of other experiences good and bad, conclusive and not...but i thought id add my op.

5400 vs 7200. You're not really going to notice the speed difference. However you might notice the increased heat and ambient noise.

2mb vs 8mb - The only thing the larger cache is good for is when moving large files. Doubt you'd notice.

Drives. Check the pinned thread up top for lockability and references. I personally prefer seagates for xbox type applications. Usually quieter and run cooler. They were out of stock when i bought mine, so i ended up buying the maxtor =/ Get it narrowed down to a few you want, then look deals at places like dealnews.com and fatwallet.com. If there's a 150gig for only a few bucks more than the 120, and of a decent quality, get it. You may lose some of the total storage, but the leftover after the 120 is good for about, say, 6 games.

Thanks for the heads up guys, so I'm off tomorrow and getting myself a nice and quiet Seagate 120Gb drive (160Gb if it's lockable - still checking it out), as a technical friend gave me enough reasons not to touch maxtor with a shitty stick, so I'm not...

So thanks again guys, really appreciated.
