My network is setup as follows:

Linksys Wireless Router with DHCP enabled.
Router address: 192.168.1.1

Desktop PC with winXP (ip: 192.168.1.100) <-- this is assigned
Laptop with 2000 (ip:192.168.1.101) <-- this is assigned

Xbox detected DHCP connection and got the ip 192.168.1.103, however I was unable to connect (ping/ftp) from my desktop at all.

I then figured out that I can ftp from my laptop just fine... My desktop can transfer files to laptop, then laptop to xbox, but that is painstakingly slow, especially since my laptop isn't wired.... its only 11mbps.

Any reason why this is?

Also: I tried manually entering in the correct settings into evox and rebooting... evox shows settings took, but I get the same results... PC: no, laptop: yes

Thanks in advance.

So what happens when you try to run an ftp client from your desktop and connect to your xbox? What error message comes up from what ftp program? Does your linksys wireless router have port 21 blocked? Routers often come with lots of ports blocked on them, can you ftp from your desktop to any other ftp on the internet using port 21? We need more information.

Its probably that winxp firewall enabled crap. take that off in the properties of your nic in the winxp box.

Firewall is not enabled.

If I can't ping, I obviously can't ftp, but I tried anyway, and I get a timeout error from flashfxp.

I'm looking at the router port forwarding settings, and I don't see anything with port 21.....

i mean I can connect to other ftp sites... even if that port was blocked, then I would still be able to ping right?

i doubt its firewall related... i mean your laptop can hit the xbox. your winxp machine can hit your laptop... not firewall. what router you using model? and what firmware is on it?

Linksys Wireless Router BEFW11S4, Firmware Version: 1.42.7, Apr 03 2002

This is strange... never seen any problems like this before on a network.

You do not have bridging or internet connection sharing activated on your xp do you? Also make sure you have your nic set to auto-detect connection type, ie 10/100, half/full duplex.
