Alright folks, i have a zephyr which had a liteon dvd drive that i messed up while bridging the two points. The component to the left of the two r707 points was lost in the fiasco. I unfortunately have the new update. I have heard that you can still dump the nand and get the dvd key from a couple of sources. Is that true?

Yes, you can possibly get the key from the motherboard but why not just go buy a 100ohm resistor and replace the one you knocked off.

If you have the skill the get the key from the MB then you can fix this problem yourself too.

(or hire a expert to fix it!! ) PM me if you want to go that route.

WTF?! It was only a 100 ohm resistor!? Damn, i feel like an idiot. I thought it was an smd cap. I do happen to have a pack of 1/2 watt 100 ohm resistors. Would those do? The solder pads were knocked off from the looks of it though. I would have to solder to the via and the trace wouldn't i? By the skill do you mean i would have to have cygnos v2 to get the key off the mobo? I heard you can only get it with a secondary hacked nand.

Oh yeah, i knew what you did right away. I repair these as a full time job. You can use a 1/2 watt and yes just solder it from the via and go right to the correct pin (the one next to TxD)

cygnos v2 would not be needed if it did come to mb key extraction but lets no even go there unless this repair i suggested fails.

Okay, so i got the resistor replaced but now it will not eject. After i accidentally knocked off the resistor, i plugged it in thinking it was no big deal but now it will not eject. Did i fry the motor that ejects the disc drive?

You wont fry the motor. The controller chip on the other hand is very easy to piss off. Most of the ones i repair for customers i can get the key but they never eject again. Not sure what people are doing to these things.

You should still try and read the key. Manual eject the tray to half and give it a try.

You might just end up being better off to get a new drive off ebay and shipping it to me to see if i can get it.

PM me if you want to go that route. Drive board can be shipped letter mail from USA to canada for $1.50

Nope, after august update you can't get the key from the motherboard anymore

Go to system settings > system info. If your kernal is 8498 or higher then there is no way at this time.

How much will you charge if i were to send you the liteon board to retrieve the key from? All you need to do is get the key from that one chip right? If so, you can just email me the key. I won't need the board back though.
