Twitter, Facebook, Last.FM and Xbox 360 Family Settings

[QUOTE]
As some of you might be aware, those under the age of 18 are not able to access Twitter, Facebook and Last.fm in our public preview. I want to you let you know that this will remain the case when it launches to the world soon. We made this decision because as it stands now, parents aren't able to use Family Settings to customize which of these applications their children can access. In order to offer an age-appropriate environment for everyone, we decided to turn off these applications for those Gold members under the age of 18. As expected, this has been a hot topic with the preview users. We want to make sure everyone was aware, however, that the development team is working on an update that gives parents the choice of which social applications their children can access. This means that Xbox LIVE members between the ages of 13 and 17 will be able to use Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm as long as their parents approve. The team hope to roll this out several weeks after launch and I will update you on the exact date as it gets closer.

What they really need to do is make it so anyone under 18 can't even play on Xbox Live. Period.

That is a little unforgiving. I would restrict the age limit to anyone under 15 myself. I am sure there are a lot of immature 15 year-olds out there. I also think that if someone isn't mature enough by 15 to know that it is extremely annoying to other people to yell racial slurs at people over the internet, they will never be mature enough.

It's easy saying that as an adult. You'd probably not be so enthusiastic about it if you were under 18.

Alright, then make it so they are segregated from 18+ players and can't join their games unless invited and vice versa.

That's two problems with one stone.

I like that idea, but I was 17 once, and that was 5 years ago?? Basically they need to have some sort of class/age system as I am tired of all the little kids screaming into the mics. I do however report (player reviews?) them every time it has gone too far and wish everyone else would do the same.

I'm gonna stand out here and say, I think Microsoft needs to stop trying to be Nintendo... It seems as though they are going power mad here in limiting what people can and cannot do with their own stuff. The Datel card, the party chat, and now the new update... When is it going to stop?

I think kids should be able to do whatever they want on their machine, because if a parent is not doing their job and just letting their kid grow up, they deserve to have a disrespectful hellian on their hands. They took the responsibility when they had kids, but so many have failed that.

I didn't play my first M rated game until I turned 17. That was the rule, and I had to abide by it, because my parents wouldn't have it. Resident Evil 4, BTW.

Anyways, Microsoft, quit it. Parents, grow some balls.

I agree kids should be sectioned off, make a kiddie live or something so we don't have to be annoyed by them and the crap they say and do on live.

Actually this is already in place, kids will only play the more popular games such as halo, cod, etc. While real gamers mostly play games like Team Fortress 2, and the newer games like Operation Flash point and Borderlands because kids suck at games the require real skill. In fact im glad that Halo ODST got rid of matchmaking because I have met more friends on forums then I ever have going into xbox live and listening to little brats scream.

Nah let em play, they're good fodder. Kill the mic function though FFS. Nothing worse then getting a "screamer".

Its a bit off topic, but I spent about 2 hours today playing World at War. While I didn't hear any kid screaming into the mic (I usually don't), what got me was the amount of people who leave a losing game. About half the games I get into nowadays I end up getting into a losing game. One of the games I got into JUST as the other team got their last kill.

I wish there could be some sort of system in place to kind of keep the quitters together and let everyone else play. The loss of a match bonus is not a good enough penalty for someone leaving a game early.

Yes, let's make sure they can't see dirty words in a Facebook post, but lets let them listen to people on XBL shout obscenities and racist insults during games...
