Hi i tried modding my old xbox a while ago and bricked my drive i have another LG-Hitachi drive and now it will only play dvd's if i flash it will this bring back the ability to play regular and burned games?

P.S i have read the forums and i have all the tools setup to flash the drive i just want to know if this will work before i do it.

Yes maybe IF you have a backup of your drive key BEFORE you bricked your old drive.

It looks like you flash the wrong drive key to your original drive. This is why it plays DVD's and not games. If you don't have the proper drive key anymore that was in your original drive then you are likely screwed.

How did you flash the original drive?

Not sure i compleatly understand your question but ill think i do...

You bricked you hitachi drive a while ago.
you recently aquired another hitachi drive.
you put the new drive in the console that the drive u bricked is from
when you try to play games it comes up as " Play DvD "
It Will play Dvd Movies but not games!

If what i discribed is correct read on!

The answer to your question Depends all depends on this 1 very impotiant question!
DID YOU SAVE YOUR ORIGINAL FIRMWARE? Should be saved on your PC as Hit-OFW.bin
IF NOT GIVE UP YOUR WAISTING YOUR TIME!

IF you Did save and have your HIT-OFW heres a step by Step using JF

Open Jungleflasher
Attatch and Mode-B Your Hitachi
Click Firmware 32 Tab
Click Load Source Firmware - Open the previously saved HIT-OFW.BIN
Click Load target Firmware - Open the Ixtreem that Matches The NEW hitachi model
Click Spoof To Target
Click Save to file
Save as HIT-CFW (this is just for backup purposes)
Next Follow the Jungleflasher Instructions for flashing...
FOLLOW THEM EXACTLY AS IT SAYS DONT BRICK ANOTHER DRIVE!

( NOTE - When you try to flash the new hitachi it will make u dump the fw once this is done you will see the Firmware source box has changed...DO NOT SPOOF IT AGAIN B4 FLASHING It May even give u a warning saying source does not match target.....this is ok because the real source has been spoofed to the target already....this is just a safty precaution so people dont accidently lose there OFW by forgeting to spoof)

Any more questions Feel free to ask!
hopefully i can help

( and if you were wandering...if you dont have you OFW You dont have your Drive Key. The reason as of now the drive is saying "Play DvD" Instead of "play game" is becaue the DvD Key Within the dvd drive firmware Must match the DvD key Within The Key vault of the consol's motherbord. Meanin Each Drive Is Specific To the motherbord it came with......untill flashed otherwise)

ohh wait i have a benq from a broken elite i found but obviously that wont work on a system that had a lg drive

basicaly i got my lg drive from a friends xbox so ima try to fix rrod on that and mod it in that xbox since i dont have my OGFW

one more question also ...

so even if i flash the drive in its current state it will not play burned games? .. because the OFW is not correct?

you can put any drive in as long as you have the correct key.

It's called drive spoofing and can be done very easy with jungleflasher.

I always email myself the keys with date and console number (back of your 360 on sticker) so I always have it backed up.

Ok now the correct key would be the key from the drive that i bricked correct? and if i dont have the key from the orig drive i am screwded and connot use another dive even if it is the same LG drive?

So in essence if i fix the RROD from the xbox i got the drive from ill be good to go on that xbox because this is the orig drive from that xbox correct?

are you using jungle flasher to do all this? its pretty hard to put the wrong firmware on a tachi and even harder to accidentally change the dvd key on one. u might wanna go to your local dump and find your old drive. all was prolly not lost with that drive.

It is always a good idea to read everything there is to know about something before you start doing it.

Be more careful next time to try to mod a console so you wont make the same expensive mistake again.

yea i learned my lesson and it seems to be easier to do than a year ago since ill be using the maximus360FWTB to do the flash this time i have watched countless videos and read the xboxfwmod.pdf for the LG 0078FW drive which says .................... (let me know if this is correct and this is what i have seen on the videos also)

(i didnt copy the 1st part with slax stuff)

2.
Insert an original retail game or movie DVD into the Hitachi drive. Remember that the Hitachi drive in ModeB likes to automatically eject after a few seconds. Follow one of these methods to keep the drive closed.
-
With the Hitachi drive tray open, press the eject button once, and then push the tray in manually or...
-
Press eject a third time, while the tray is closing
3.
Wait for Windows to recognize the disc inserted, then close out of any autoruns caused by the disc.
4.
Open 360 Firmware Toolbox.
5.
Select Tools > Direct Drive Dump (GDR Only)
6.
Make sure your Hitachi drive is selected in the drop-down list
7.
Select “Raw Dump Firmware As…”
8.
Save the original firmware as original.bin somewhere safe
9.
The program will tell you that your firmware has been dumped and asks if you want to open it, select “Yes”
10.
Make sure the key displayed looks fairly unique, with no multiple FF or 00 bytes. You may also want to dump the firmware a couple times and make sure the key is the same for each dump.
11.
Select Tools > Smart Hack Patcher
12.
Read the warning and accept it
13.
On the line labeled output file, click the box to the right with the ellipsis (three dots) and save the file as hacked.bin where you saved the original firmware
14.
Select one of the v78 firmwares, 2x, 5x, 8x, and 12x are the different read speeds for the firmware.
You now have a choice between different read speed firmwares. There are four available options. There is a firmware that reads backups at 2x speed, 5x speed, 8x speed, and 12x speed. There is no “right” choice, it is purely up to preference. 12x is the normal read speed of the drive. Higher speeds are louder, and may have trouble reading backups if you have a poor quality laser, burner, or media. Lower speeds are much quieter, and may read better, but you will have slower load times.
15.
Select “Generate File”
16.
It should say the hacked firmware was created, and asks if you want to open it, again select “Yes”
17.
Verify that the key is still the same as before
18.
Select Tools > Direct Drive Flash (GDR Only)
19.
Select Differential Flash (Patch)
20.
Check that your Hitachi drive is selected in the drop-down list
21.
Hit “Read and Detect Differences”
22.
Select “Start Flashing” and let it finish
23.
Close out of the program, hook the drive back up to the 360, and test it out.
Email yourself the original.bin and hacked.bin for backup purposes.

If you still have the bricked hitachi the TSOP can be lifted and read externally to retrieve your drive key.

[edit] Just read that you threw it away, bad times!
