The reason I'm asking this is because it appears it might be able to come out if you bend the little arms up, but I have not had any success in doing so. They are good sticks, just not clicking wise because its sooo loud and harder to push, even though they are fresh and don't need to be pushed very far.

You have to take the stick mostly apart to get the Tact switch out, the 4 tabs on the bottom of the stick, not the 2 on top of the Tact switch.

You need to make sure when putting it back together it's pressed together as tight as it can be and crimped just as good as before, it's not worth it for the mess really. What are you using for replacements that are so different?

I bought them from ebay, the guy claims the tacts on there are the only ones available in china and that MS has special ones that aren't available, but these aren't even ALPS there's no label on them but the shaft is white and the POTs and tact switch are black, I'm pretty sure they use ALPS RKJXP1224002 for xbox 360 thumbsticks, so I'm not sure what brand these are, but they seem to be more likely to give someone repetitive strain injuries sprinting on call of duty.

When you took that thumbstick apart was it ever going back together or is it really hard to do? It seems like that metal piece is very fragile for the left right movement.

I've taken them apart before to repair and put them back together, but replacing the entire thing is just easier and less of a hassle. You can get the RKJXP1224002 from Mouser, at $8 a pop unless you get 100 or more, but that's the difference between using the right part or some 3rd party crap to try and save a few bucks.

Very true. Oh well, it's no big deal some people might like them. I made the mistake of replacing 2 sticks on a board that doesnt work on batteries before fortunately they were the bootleg kind haha.

I've been having fun fixing other peoples broken controllers, but I really wish I knew how to troubleshoot ones that cant run off of batteries, or don't turn on. I have like 9 dead controllers I have no clue if they can work again, one has like 2x fast LED animations and wont sync, another is really dim and flickers out and dies. A handful of them just don't turn on, really weird, seems like I have a source for replacement thumbsticks that aren't so odd. mad.gif

Seems like there's a lot of soda eating the traces going on.

No, the PS3 controllers use different sticks than the 360 controllers.

You will probably have to get them from another PS3 controller. The older PS3 controllers use one similar to the 360 sticks, but they are smaller, and the newer PS3 controllers use a completely different type.
