Weird 0021 Rrod Options

I recently did 3 things to my Xbox (Falcon):

• Reflashed IXtreme 1.41 on my pre-flashed Hitachi drive using the JungleFlasher app
• Installed XBReboot (including JTAG and Ethernet/LPT flasher mods)
• Reinstalled XBReboot v3 using Gentoo and lflash.

As a result, I got a nice little box capable of playing the newest games off disks and HDD. But I also got something else, which I've not yet encountered on this forum (and I DID conduct a search on all things 0021):

Basically, the console works fine, meaning that I can play whatever I like, whenever I like and for as long as I like (my longest test was a 24-hour marathon of Borderlands co-op without interruption). But sometimes, that is, mostly after playing for some time and then turning it off and instantly on again, I get the 0021 error.

I do get 0021 also without having pre-heated (played) the Xbox, but the only 100% sure way of reproducing the RROD is to play, switch off, and then switch it on again. Once, I put the booted (Dashboard) Box into RROD state by tampering with the external HDD's USB connection, but since then I haven't managed to repeat that. Still, it's interesting to note that there might be a connection between USB and 0021. I read once that external HDDs draw too much voltage from the Xbox, but since my hard drive has its own power source, I have my doubts about this.

A further strange aspect of my error is that disconnecting the Xbox from the power brick or waiting for a few seconds makes everything work again.
Last, but not least, comes the information concerning the DVD drive: no matter whether it is plugged in or not, the error comes and goes like normal.

This leads me to the conclusion that:

• it's not the DVD drive's fault
• overheating might, or might not be the issue
• USB connection could be the culprit

Any thoughts on how to fix my 0021?

Make sure your power brick's light isn't showing any problems. If that doesn't solve it you might have to buy a new power supply. If your console doesn't already have a 203w power supply you might as well buy one of those, its going to make sure your 360 is getting enough power. If you have any mods done to the console I would seriously recommend getting a 203w power supply, its could stop this problem and future problems.

Are you using the rear usb port for the hard drive? If not switch it back there, I read somewhere it gets more power than the front ones since it's built into the motherboard and actually meant for accessories like wireless adapters and stuff.

jtag brings up some problems if the soldering is even a bit off so you might want to resolder everything and use a bit more flux.

but seeing as unplugging your power supply and plugging it back in resolves things, I'm thinking you might want to upgrade to a higher watt psu.

One last test you could try is to plug it into a computer and use a hard drive benchmark if any problems arise during the benchmark then its the external hard drive.

Thanks for this hint, it might be a good idea to look at the PSU's LED the next time the box goes RROD. Still, I am unsure why insufficient power would give me a 0021 error - isn't that one reserved for

• GPU/CPU/Southbridge overheating problems
• DVD Drive time-out

P.S. I do know that the error code list isn't official or 100% accurate, I'm just repeating the things written down in the Xbox360 bible... and according to that, these two problems are unrelated.

I didn't have time to play around with my box until now, but finally, I've tried the next solution. Unfortunately, it's still broken. What I know now is:

1. The power brick's LED is green during RROD state
2. Even with HDD plugged into rear USB, it RRODs
3. It (probably) wasn't the Internal-HDD-to-USB adapter's fault, as I've tried another one today

...all this meaning that I'm still open to suggestions. In fact, I'm begging for them - sort of. So if you have any clue, shoot.

P.S. Would it help if I desoldered the Ethernet to LPT mod? After all, I don't think I will have any future use for it. Or shouldn't I?

The 2 weird RRoD may be from a combination of a short and turning the power off and on.

You replied in my thread about my system turning on and off. I had also experienced that weird ring, although I didn't grab a secondary error code because I was freaked out and turned it off and back on. However, when I did get it, I remembered my xbox had shut itself off, and I quickly turned it back on, getting the 2 red rings in opposite corners. My issue with the xbox turning on and off by itself was due to a leg from a resistor that had been pushed through one of the LPT solder spots, hitting the case and shorting out.

I think the issue lies with Xbr my 360 has thrown a few errors at me since Ive got. First is if I dont eject the disc drive i cant load another game from hardrive. Second booting with a usb hdd attached will give red ring unplug it turn it back on and its fine. Seems xbr is kind of buggy at this point but the problems dont always present themselves.

Sounds like your xbox has other problems. I've never heard of anything like that.

Upon searching for an answer I found why I get the ring when the usb was plugged in I had a xex file in the root directory this cuases the error. Ive seen other users saying that booting god containers and then exiting with guide will cuase the 360 to say unable to load game when attempting to load another god container.
