You would need a bottom grille plate or an Arcade top cover.

Im bumping this. Just wondering if theres any updates on this?

Looks really nice smile.gif I'm thinking about doing something similar with the heatsinks and the grill.

I have a broken pre-nxe non jasper coming in soon. Looking to reflow, x-clamp, and then jtag hopefully.

I've been researching heatsink/cooling mods. For these 1st gen 360s I've heard its better to keep the cpu heatsink a 1st gen. For the gpu heatsink I've seen people use either a 1st gen or 2nd gen cpu heatsink with custom shrouds.

Just wondering if any one has advice for extra cooling for a 1st gen 360 (most likely Xenon) with the extra space that comes from removing the dvd drive.

Believe me, I have been researching, not lazy or anything, just havn't been able to find a solid answer.

Thanks. smile.gif

hey, with all that extra room you could easily do an internal water cooled setup

Still running fine but I'm going to have to pop the top and desolder the bridge that is stopping the console from updating (thankfully I didn't desolder the resistor). My dashboard was older than the required dashboard to run Freeboot when I flashed it with XBR3 and it looks like XBR4 isn't going to happen.

Nice work and professionally done!
Love the charcoal colour of that case, was it aftermarket or did you paint it yourself?

The case, faceplate, side grilles and hard drive enclosure are 100% stock MS colour. No paint.
Have a look at an Elite in a bright environment, its far from black.

Hi farenheit.

I did a similar case mod to mine but without removing the drive. Link with pics

how are you running without a DVD drive?

Great idea to use the speaker grille. I want to do this myself and get a new black case. yours looks really nice.

PS: What is the wire and zener diode doing by the southbridge?

Interesting mod Mike. You certainly won't miss those old mem unit slots. I like it.
It would be really interesting to see the internal temperatures.

The wires and diodes are for the jtag hack which is what allows for homebrew to run. That also explains how I'm running without a DVD drive. You don't require a DVD drive with a homebrew 360.

There are also a few apps that can tell you the internal temperatures which is very handy for these sorts of mods.

Cheers. I cant take temp readings through lack of suitable equipment biggrin.gif but from touch I can tell that the GPU sink is quite a bit cooler. I'm thinking of putting a divider in front to separate the airflow going into each of the 2 heatsinks. Not sure it'll improve it and its hard to tell without proper temp readings.

Can you tell me more about jtag/homebrew or post some links please so I can read up on it. Would be ace to lose the DVD drive smile.gif

If you have updated your 360 dashboard after Sept 09 or have had it sent back from MS repair center, then there is no point pursuing homebrew. If you haven't updated then you have some serious research to do. This isn't the topic for that.

You might not be able to get internal temps but you could pick up a cheap thermometer and place it around the case and take measurements to see how air is flowing.
