I want to buy a new 80 giger to do a HD swap on my xbox once I get the Xodus chip but dont know what brand, etc. is recommended. Any advise would be great.

Also, should I do the HD swap and Xodus install at the same time or separtely - which would be easier, Im no expert so I need to read alot of tutorials etc.

any brand of hd should work a lot of people seem to be using western digital. you will have to install the chip first to swap the hd. hope this helps.

Stay away from that ibm crap!!!! You can't go wrong with maxtor or western digital......i know a few people saying that 7200 rpm runs too hot. I think the jury is still out on that issue. To be on the safe side..i would buy one that runs at 5400 rpm

maxtor and western digital drives are the best at the moment, with IBm comming a close second. although not too long ago IBM had MASSIVE reliability problems.

Thanks Guys, Looks like I may go with WD or Maxtor, since there is no debate in the quality of these two.

Kkatfish, you told me in another post that there is a way to go from a non-modded xbox to an xbox running on Xodus, with a bigger HD, and copying games right to the HD without having to connect your xbox to the pc - I searched for the tutorial but got no where - if you could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

A hard drive is a hard drive is a hard drive. It's like posting a question what is better Coke or Pepsi. Everyone has their opinion about which is better.

The idea of what drive is better really depends on what you are looking for in a hard drive. If you are looking for reliabilty some will say brand X, if you are looking for speed some will say brand Y, it just depends on what you want. As far as IBM having issues with reliability it was on their Deskstar 75GXP's but they don't make those anymore so you wouldn't have to worry about that.

To me the best drive is whatever drive you can find for the lowest price. When you are buying these drives reliability is about the same. By the way...I prefer Pepsi.

Because I heard 7200RPM HD is too hot, I sold my two new sealed WD120BB at ebay and buy a maxtor 100GB 5400RPM.

At today somebody told me 7200 is two time faster than 5400. I'm so regret. mad.gif

I really dont mind waiting for games get burned onto the HD, Im a patient person, but will the games actually run slower on a 5400 as compared to a 7200 while playing the game.

i ll tell you right now any harddrive will load a game faster than the dvd rom. while the 5x dvd is the fastest gaming dvd on the market(just like all the xbox components) its not as fast as a harddrive.. so i would worry about the speed running off a harddrive, the only difference is maybe 10% with 7200 / 5400. i read a test that loaded a halo level in like 13sec. instead of 14.4 or something.

well.. i'm using an 80 gig IBM 7200 rpm (cause it was the cheapest 7200 rpm at the time). It runs great w/no problems.
