jtag question...fitting a new drive.....does any HDD work? i have a 120GB statndard drive...if i upgrade to 500GB drive will it work? i was thinking of getting a western digital usb drive and taking that out...if so how do i format it so it will recognise the drive???

Yes any 2.5 hdd will do the job. Just replace the 120gb with the new one and put it on your 360 and format it.

Your 360 will take care of the partitions too.
As far as the disadvantages,....the only thing I can think of is you can only use this drive in jtaged consoles, as it won't work in stock or flashed consoles, .......but the standard hdd will work in all consoles.

ok one last question what heuight is the xbox 360 stock drive is it 9.5mm and 5400rpm? is that true??

because the WD drives that i have found are only 4800rpm and 15mm will it still work??

what are the best ones???
