Xbox 360 Dashboard Update Help, Cannot connect to Live....:( Options

Hey guys i recently purchased a Xbox 360 Pro/Go with 60 GB HDD. It's manufacturing date is after August 2009 and it is already hacked to play backup games. The problem is that i brought it from a shop and i don't know which form of modification is done to Xbox 360 so that i can play backups.

I am new to Xbox Scene i don't know much but what i know is that we can either install a modchip or JTAG our Xbox to play backup games. My Xbox came with 8498 kernel and is Jasper Model with HDMI Support and HDD. The HDD is filled with some videos and trial version of several Arcade games.

I want to know if my console is already JTAGGED. I want to play XBLA and use other Homebrew on my Xbox, Will i be able to do this even if i just have a modded Xbox or JTAG is required for it. When i try connecting to Live it says an update is found and if i don't update it doesn't allow connecting to Live. There is some Xbox Dashboard file in the HDD which is guess is the Dashboard update.

Is it safe for me to update my Dashboard and connect to Live if my console is modded and not JTAGGED and if it is so will i won't be able to use any homebrew until i JTAG?
I don't want to play online games through Live, I just want to create a Live account. I want to use XeXmenu to play games and use emulators as well. I don't have any means to connect my HDD to my PC but i have already ordered the cable for connecting it to PC and it will arrive in a couple of days so until then i can only use Usb . Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You have a dvd flash. Probably LT firmware. You'll figure it out eventually. No you shouldn't play online, you're modded. It WILL result in you being banned eventually, no matter what someone tells you. (Might as well enjoy it while you can) Jtag's just get banned quicker. You have the kind of mod that they usually wait to ban, until x-mas bonus season. But can do whenever they feel you have more $$, or they want/need it.
Update to your hearts content. It's the only way you'll play online and get banned.

Thanx for this quick reply. So it means it is safe to update. What happens if our console is banned. Will it lose the ability to play backups. Since i just have a DVD Flash and no other Hardware Hacks so does this mean that i cannot play DLC/XBLA or use Homebrew on my XBOX 360.

I have no intention of playing on Live since i don't have such a Fast Connection anyways, I just wanted to update firmware and connect to Live for a short time so that i could download the Optional Media Update which requires Live to download. After that i don't have any other use for Live so i won't be using it. I know that i can copy this update to HDD and install it from there but right now i don't have any cable and i don't want to remove the warranty and connect via SATA to PC.

Any connection to live is a risk, we have learn't that recently. Take a usb stick and download the update to the usb stick that will allow you to update the dash.

I finally decide to update via USB and downloaded the Fall 09 update to update my console to 8955 Kernel. The update successfully finished and i got Avatar functionality back. I tried then connecting to Live or signing in but still it was asking for update. I know there is a new Kernel 9199 which is the latest kernel but from what i know updating to this Kernel is risky due to Microsoft's policy to ban modded consoles.

I also checked my DVD drive and i think that i got a BenQ DVD Drive with modded Firmware. I don't think my console is banned but just as a precaution i have disconnected my X360 from Internet. That's all i think i have to just wait a couple more days to get the cable so that i can manually place the Optional Media Update on HDD and install it. Thanx for ur help guys. I really appreciate it.

I was wondering that since i have got a NTSC-J console does this mean that i can only play games related to my region. Isn't there any way i can play games like Final Fantasy XIII or other that aren't released here. I know most of X360 games are Region Free but there are still Region Locked games. Isn't there any way around this?
