Just saw this on engadget and couldn't believe my eyes! An actual exception to the DMCA that benefits the people and not corporations!

Couldn't this be used as precedence and applied to technology other than cell phones? ie: jtagging your xbox 360 to run xell and legal linux, modchip on xbox 1 to run linux, etc. These have all been gray areas, but does this have a possibility to make it outright legal? Perhaps someone with legal insight can chime in here.
