So I've had my xbox softmodded for about half a year now with the XBMC dashboard.

Recently when trying to start up the xbox, I've been encountering that screen with the flashing red/green light telling me the xbox is broken in like 10 languages.

After multiple restarts and unplugging/plugging back in, I can usually get the thing to start.

Any idea what could be causing this? My first guess is maybe the hard drive (it's quite old).

Which error number shows up on the screen? Depending on the error number, it might just be a loose connection on the hard drive. The error numbers are documented so you can find out what is actually wrong with it. I don't know them off hand.

If you don't have eeprom backup on your PC, please grab it with ConfigMagic and ftp to PC when the console actually manages to boot.
