I have recently found out you can pick up an xbox for as little as £10-15 (tuns out my master system 2 is worth more blink.gif) so this week I will be buying a second hand xbox mainly to run linux on, play videos off my network and play snes/mega drive roms.

I quit console gaming before the xbox came out. The last console I bought was a dreamcast, so perhaps the xbox graphics will blow me away!

So what are the top xbox games I have missed out on, which are the must haves? The games only cost £1.50-£4.00 smile.gif

Why wouldn't that be real? Xbox support was dropped a LONG TIME AGO so yeah it's no surprise they're that cheap smile.gif

Must haves IMO

Halo
Halo 2
GTA San Anderas
Star Wars KOTOR

Oh, I just noticed its xbox1 forums, not 360. For xbox360 that sounds to cheap, for xbox1, your right.
I would say get
-Manhunt
-Conkers, live and reloaded.
-Both Halos, As said before.
-Marc Eckos, Getting up- I liked it.
-Def Jam Fight for NY
-Indigo Prophecy
-Jet Set Radio Future
-Psychonauts
-The Warriors(Really good game, Made by Rockstar)
Those are some of my favorites.
And games i think others should try.

Thanks for the recommendations. Noted them and I shall hunt some of them down tomorrow when I buy an xbox smile.gif

Watched a few trailers of The warriors, it looks interesting actually, I defiantly will be getting that. The halos are £4 and £5 respectively and Fifa 2004 costs 10p at CEX blink.gif.

Yep it's just an Xbox1 I have. I may buy a second hand 360, but in about 3 years time when its games are cheap. I don't mind being a few years behind, because paying £40 for a game is just ridiculous. I don't remember new N64 or Dreamcast games being that expensive on release.

I bought an xbox and 10 games for £30 from my local games shop. Also been on ebay and grabbed san andreas, project gotham racing 2 and Soul Calibur 2 for £14.

The XBox has some fantastic games, and you really should mod it and add a larger hard drive, as then you can run emulators and game ports too, and install and run *everything* from hard drive.

Anyway, recommended games:

First person shooters:

Unreal Championship 2 (very different and far, far better than UC1, which is just a cut down version of the PC's Unreal Tournament 2003),
Timesplitters 2,
Timesplitters 3: Future Perfect (utterly superb),
Chronicles of Riddick,
Deus Ex: Invisible War,
XIII,
Halo,
Halo 2,
Serious Sam,
Half-Life 2,
Doom 3
Doom 3: RoE
Project Snowblind,
The Suffering,
The Suffering: Ties that Bind,
Painkiller,

third person shooters:

Second Sight,
Psi Ops.
Freedom Fighters,

Platform games:

Conker: Live and Reloaded (not nearly as good as the N64 orignal, but well worth getting if you can't get the N64 version),
Psyconauts,
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time,

RPGs:

Morrowind
Knights of the Old Republic,
Knights of the Old Republic 2,
Jade Empire,

Driving:

Burnout 2,
Burnout 3,
GTA3: San Andreas (the best GTA game ever, I think),
GTA3,
GTA3: Vice City,

also, if your XBox is modded, then you can run brilliant ports of Doom 1, Doom 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Alien vs Predator. There are also ports of othetr games, which are supposed to be good, but I don't like them so I can't really comment on them, such as Quake 1 and 2, Descent 1 and 2, and Rise of the triad. Plus you can get great emulators for almost every pre-XBox system, so you can run their games on your XBox. See the FAQs on this site for details.

There's nothing "just" about owning an XBox 1! I have a 360 and it's great (I'm currently playing Singularity, a very under-rated first person shooter), but I much prefer the XBox 1, both for it's games, and also the stuff you can do with the XBox 1 when it's modded. The XBox 1 is my media player, and also has all my emulators on it.

If I could only have one XBox, it would be the first one, not the 360.

Anyway, congratulation on your purchase. You have many superb games to find, and if you like first person shooters then you're especially in for a treat, although the XBox is great for most genres, and is a very reliable machine. The only likely problem with it is the DVD drive, which wear out with use, but if you mod the machine and add a large hard drive (I have a 500GB), which are very cheap now, then you can install all of your games to the hard drive, and run them from there. This saves wear and tear on the DVD drive, stops all loading errors, and makes loading much faster and quieter. Plus you can then store your game discs somewhere safe (where the kids can't get them), as you don't need them again.

Halo
Halo2
KOTOR
Psychonauts (great overlooked game)
Beyond Good & Evil (same as above)
Conker: Live and Reloaded
Thief: Deadly Shadows
Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance
Half Life 2
Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee
Super Monkey Ball Deluxe (I'm serious)
TOCA Race Driver 3
Burnout 3
GTA: San Andreas
Deus Ex: Invisible War

There great as a media centre just lacking the HD but still super-universal. I still use mine as my main for streaming stuff from my pc.

Most have been said but I got a few:

FPS:
Turok Evolution
Breakdown
Project: Snowblind
Pariah(game was fun for me plus the ending was different from what you'd expect in this kind of story)

3rd Person:
Advent Rising
Cold Fear
Stubs the Zombie(I only played the demo and the game blew me away)
Brute Force
Bloodrayne 1
Bloodrayne 2
Ninja Gaiden(regular or Black)
Star Wars: Battlefront
True Crime(the first 1 is recommended most)

Racing:
LA Rush(is very hard)

Sports:
Amped

and most of these if you go on amazon arn't that much at all.

Cheers for all the suggestions, I certainly have a lot to go at! Good bye social life!

I soft modded mine with unleashx and whacked xbmc on it. Other than playback of 720p rips are slow, I can't fault it. Using the pad is much better than using a wireless media centre keyboard as well.

It is THE emulation machine. Got N64, PSX and more importantly SNES and Mega Drive (genesis to any Americans on here). A mate of mine has also gone out and bought one which I modded last night, and now my brother wants one in his room for streaming content off my network.

Best £15 I have ever spent biggrin.gif

Only setback I have is the size of the xbox hard drive. I've tried using xboxhdm so I can use a spare IDE drive I have, got past the first screen where you select option one. Reached the point you type in xboxhd but then I get errors which state linux cannot be found. I've tried re burning it as well at 1x speed.

Still I shall persevere, I will get there eventually.

If you're really into it and don't mind spending a bit more, you might consider installing a modchip. With a modchip, it's very easy to upgrade the hard drive to something bigger. I currently have an 80 GB installed (had an extra one laying around). Since the controller is IDE, your limit is 250 GB for hard drives. Some people have had success using an SATA adapter, but it's hit and miss.
