Disk Swapper v1 Beta DashLaunch Plugin
Posted by XanTium | January 26 06:36 EST | News Category: Xbox360

After the released of the Dead Space 2 Disc Swap DashLaunch Plugin, cOz now released a universal disk swapper plugin for DashLaunch:
[QUOTE]
Disk swapper v1 BETA
Multidisk game switcher
This plugin is not hard coded to require any specific version of dash or for any specific game.

What it does:
If you have games with more than one disk installed on your machine, this plugin takes care of switching from one disk to the other (once you set up the multi.ini file, the plugin, and dash launch of course) ingame.

Currently tested with (so few hence the beta)
- Dead Space 2
- Castlevania
Should work well for most games

Sweeeeeet indeed lol. How exactly is it used? I know how to use dashlaunch, but do you just load disc 2 and it acts like the discs were swapped?

Is there any reason this solution will not work -

1) Extract Game ISOs into two seperate folders

2) Merge files from the two folders
(eg. with Castlevania use the rename Data00.packed and Data01.packed from the second disc to Data02.packed and Data03.packed)

3) Create a (somewhat large) ISO from this newly merged folder

4) Use ISO2GOD to convert to a complete GOD with no disk swapping

No because some games other disc files are exactly the same and will overwite the data on the other disc. Like Star Ocean has data for three seperate discs, as some "zones" are on one disc and not the other.

Oh I understand for Star Ocean it's not possible. That's been an issue for a long time, but for Final Fantasy XIII, Mass Effect 2 and Castlevania I think the solution I suggested is far more elegant - If it works, my question is would it work for those.

I think what's missing here in the forums is a nice sticky about multi-disc games.

e.g. to get started:

Combining extracted files into a \games\gametitle folder

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Files Data00.packed and Data01.packed from DVD2 must be renamed to Data02.packed and Data03.packed before merging folders to prevent overwriting files

Dead Space 2
Doesn't work

Final Fantasy XIII
Note - most people report that overwriting DVD3's contents with DVD2's followed by DVD1's files produces a working merged folder.

Mass Effect 2
Most people say to copy DVD1's contents over the top of DVD2 but it shouldn't make a difference

Star Ocean: The Last Hope
Doesn't work

Using the above method then converting the merged folder to an ISO then a GOD

I've re-posted this here http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=727597 for any extra info anyone might have to build a compatibility list.

ya seriously man, do a quick search before hijacking this thread and/or creating a new one.

people been talking about that method for a while. it's still on the first page of the xexdk development forum.

edit: wait you've been active in that thread, so whats the deal? why not make your list there? this thread is for things pertaining to the dashlaunch plugin only.

I don't understand why you would even mention other methods that don't work for every game in this thread. This plugin works for EVERY multi disc game and has support for up to 5 discs per game, you can also have multiple games listed in your multi.ini

Use the method that works wink.gif

Hey sorry, wasn't trying to Hijack the conv. Good to know it works with all games. That thread linked is about 9 pages long and has contradicting answers about copying files into the same folder and makes no mention of combined GODs. I was just trying to collect the info from it together into a readable form. I'll shift my post.

As I said, good that it works for all games, the only real issue is the initial setup could be a bit risky. I've seen people saying that incorrectly configuring other dashlaunch plugins can cause the system to stop booting, I've tried to use c0z's hddalive plugin and had no success. The other advantage of merging the games is that they won't appear as duplicate in the game listing, and it makes them easier to move to another xbox (easier than copying two separate folders then having to edit an .ini file. My point was only that there are more elegant solutions for other games, for some such as dead space 2 this is only option.
