Heres an interesting issue my brothers console recentlys seems to be getting worse in that when hes playing a game such as halo things take ages to register or things dont register at all.

Now before you all go saying its your network at home or hes just crap at the game(which he isnt) ive checked our whole network and everything on the network is running fine. My xbox is on the same connection and i get host in game quite often and everything registers even if its not my host.

However my brothers console will never get host and as above things dont seem to work properly.

Recently i tried putting different xboxs that ive had in the shop in place of his xbox and everything is fine. He will even get host so its pritty obvious its the xbox but does anyone know whether their is anything that can be done to fix it?

Its seems like it could be the ethernet controller chip failing but ive not had any experence with dealing with consoles with networking issues.

Any help or suggestions are welcome!

As you already said, the thernet chip is failing. If you have some soldering knowledge and skills, the replacing of the failing chip is quite easy procedure. So as long the console is out of warranty, purchase a new ethernet chip and replace the old one.

After checking everything that you did, and making sure that the network settings on the 360 itself are fine, I would change the network chip. I don't know if slow play is a synptonbof a bad chip but that's where I would start.

Thanks for the reply. I do have very good soldering skill and you've pretty much confirmed what I thought would be wrong. I have loads of motherboards that sent working so I'm pretty sure I can just take one of of their and replace the one on my brother console.

I'll let you know how that goes, hopefully it will be back working correctly!

If you have a basic hot air station and a smaller nozzle it takes literally less than a couple of minutes to pull one off of a donor board and put it on the board in question. I recommend using flux but if you don't have any that's fine too. Just takes a bit more heat.

Thanks again for the replies. Unfortunately as this console is one the the newer fat consoles the Ethernet chip is a really tiny bga chip. I've worked on bga chips before but not this small and I don't really want to get a new stencil for it. Thanks for the help though guys!
