Supprised this hasnt been noticed before

The new Slim hd's cant be cloned with hdd hacker

I did this for a friend earlier

Took his Slim hd 250gb (SAMSUNG HM250HI)
Dumped the HDDSS.BIN
then made a complete byte by byte backup of the hd

Flashed the drive and restored the byte by byte backup to the clone

The idea behind this is so the drive is identical
just incase there is any extra signing on the hd anywhere
for drive detection

then on first boot of the 360 i would normally format the hd

It didnt work

to test there wasnt a problem with the drive used
I flashed my hddss from my super elite (hitachi)
and the xbox 360 picked it up fine

So there you go either hddhackr is doing something wrong with the hddss.bin from samsung 250gb's
or microsoft has some new security in the firmware on the samsung hd's

You're doing it wrong. Mine works fine with a stolen 250GB ss.bin that everyone uses and hddhackr. Then restore partition 2 and fill her up.

Uh, to use hddhackr, you need to download the modded hddss.bin from the internet that is meant to work with Western Digital HDD's. Its on the README text file.

You can't just use the one off of the Samsung drive, it just won't work. Hddhackr was designed and coded for WD drives, it was never designed to work any other manufacturer's drives.

Im not doing anything wrong

And yes i know i can use the ss that everyone uses

as stated i used the ss from my super elite and it worked just fine (hitachi ss)

the point of the thread was for people to know that slim hd's cant be cloned

You dont seem to understand how it works

the ss on the net for 250gb hd's is a hitachi ss
it has nothing to do with the hd being a WD

the way hddhackr works is it reads the security sector
and changes the hd to id as the same serial number and id and make

There is no new security, don't mislead people without facts. If you have a problem cloning a particular drive then why not create a topic with that as the title. This thread is ridiculously misleading and just serves to misinform noobs and gullable people.

I can't comment on that and you may be right.

But that doesn't mean there is new security, it simply means that the method for obtaining the ss.bin from a Samsung manufactured 250GB drive hasn't be done yet. Sorry if I sounded like a pedantic sod it's just your OP strongly implies some kind of new security, which is clearly not the case.

From what you say it's only a very specific situation where anyone would even attempt this kind of task. 99% of people just download the standard copyrighted 250gb ss.bin, and make their own drive. There are the tools available to make a file system backup of any drive no matter the manufacturer. So your situation is something that virtually nobody would try, it certainly isn't a security matter and is simply down to no software supporting the Samsung drives.

It's hardly any sort of issue to be alarmed at, as I and i'm sure many others would be from the thread title.

It works on all other samsung xbox hd's
20gig 60gig 120gig etc

so there's something up

and i did say

So there you go either hddhackr is doing something wrong with the hddss.bin from samsung 250gb's
or microsoft has some new security in the firmware on the samsung hd's
