I recently tried to stream a Blu-Ray movie rip to my Xbox 360 via the wireless network. The resolution is 720p, the video is 3 MB/s, and the audio is 160 KB/S (stereo). The file type is x264 .m4v. There was no other network activity at the time. The video would play smoothly for a few minutes, hang and stutter, and then that process would repeat itself again. Should this type of streaming scenario be feasible? It is not physically possible for both the Xbox 360 and laptop to be connected to the router via Ethernet. Is this most likely a problem with the laptop, the Xbox, or the wireless network? Anything to be done?

Buy a router with more ports or buy a switch to add to your existing network. Connect both via ethernet.

This is due to the location of the router/Xbox 360 as opposed to a lack of ports.

It's the wireless connection, and there's not much you can do about it. Read this post for a detailed explanation.

Ya, I bought the wireless N adapter, wasted time getting the Xbox to actually connect in wireless N mode and once that was done, my speeds were still shit and I couldn't stream my 720p mkv files properly. So I said F it and bought a 50' ethernet cable for $18 and wired up the xbox and now everything runs nice and smooth.

ps. if anyone needs a Wireless N adapter, I got one for sale...
