So I've read every freaking tutorial I could possibly find. Booting into DOS, copying firmware, etc... would not be beyond me, however, I don't have a Western Digital drive.

My 20GB HDD (supposedly a genuine MS HDD) is a Samsung. Every tutorial I've read says I need to have one of a select few WD HDDs.

So, I just gave in and ordered a non-MS HDD upgrade off Ebay (120GB). Lo and behold, it doesn't work. I crack the case open and it's a Hitachi 120GB. Did I get screwed? I'm thinking not, as my original 20GB was a Samsung.

So I'm left with a very simple question. How in the world do I get a non-WD drive to work in my Xbox? Obviously, some people have (otherwise there wouldn't be Samsung and Hitachi 360 HDDs floating around).

Thanks

Microsoft can use whatever they want. They have the ability to flash the proper info to the drive for them to work. However for the rest of us we are stuck using hddhackr which only supports WD drives at this time.

That makes sense. Bummer.

I guess my only other question would be how do people sell non-MS drives on Ebay (that are not WD) and expect them to work?
