I have a IHAS124 with IXtreme Burner Max and have burned several XGD3 backups without problems. Suddenly, the verify started to fail at 50% and I would get random dirty disc errors if I played the game. I've tried about 5 times with different settings and they all fail verification at 50%. I use Verbatim MK-003. I have tried 4x with OPC (the settings I have used for succesful burns previously), 2.4x without OPC and also with and without Hypertuning, online Hypertuning and SmartBurn. I also get a error message that OPC failed every other time I try to initialize a burn (if I restart Imgburn it's gone). I started getting this error just as I opened a new package of MK-003, can it be a bad batch of DVDs? I'm also using a SATA to USB converter from an external harddrive enclosure, could that be the source (I don't have any SATA-ports, so I can't really do without)?

Here's one of the logs:

Sounds to me like a bad batch if you have burnt others, I've had this on none verbs I've tested (never going to use just trying out kprobe etc), and some would fail like this and the odd one would verify fine.

If you have another pack of verbs try them see what you get.

try clearing the opc history of the liteon drive, since the liteon learns the quality of the last 8 discs burnt and this batch may need different settings (hypertuning and online hypertuning is allways on since mkm03 is an unkown media (c4eva altered the media code in the frimware)).

I had a similar problem. I burned about 10 discs and all of them gave good-great results in KProbe, then all of a sudden I was getting coaster after coaster. That was with MKM-003-00 discs made in Singapore and all from the same spindle.

I use these settings now, recommended by Lightning UK (the creator of ImgBurn): -

1. Clear OPC history using EEPROM Utility and power cycle the drive.

2. Enable Smart Burn and Force Hyper Tuning.

3. Disable Over Speed Writing and Online Hyper Tuning.

4. Disable OPC in ImgBurn.

5. Burn at 4X.

In your case, as you just started using a new spindle of discs, it could be a bad batch, but give those settings a try anyway.

Thanks for all the advice. This is what I have tried so far:

1. Followed funksoulbrothers instructions and cleared OPC and burned with new settings. Same error, failed verify at 50% with L-EC Uncorrectable Error.

2. Tried burning a different backup. Same error, failed verify at 49% with L-EC Uncorrectable Error.

3. Found some DVD's from a different spindle.Tried to burn with that to find out if I had a bad batch of Verbatims. Same error, so it's not the media.

4. Tried burning from another computer with a fresh install of Imgburn, to check if it was a software problem. Same error.

5. Tried reflashing the drive to see if it was a firmware problem. Same error.

So now there seems to be only two things left. Either my SATA to USB is causing trouble, or my Liteon drive is faulty. It seems unlikely that the SATA to USB is the source, since I've made several backups without problems on the same setup. Googling the L-EC error comes back to either bad media or a faulty drive. Could my Liteon drive have failed after less than 10 burns? Anything more I can try?

I really hope that this forum can solve this problem too, I just got back into burning after 5months of xbox being unflashed and the process is so much more complicated now. I bought the new ihas-B lite onquality drive and flashed it with burner max and havent had 1 successful burn yet. My 50pc spindle of memorex DL's have burned flawless back around wave5 but these xgb3 are all comimg up coaster quality, so ill buy a stack of verb's on the way home and try those but I dont have high hope on it being the root of my problem.

Just a note to say thanks to this post.

Here is my situation if it helps... IHAS 124 Drive

After initial flash with LT max burns on 4x and OPC on were fine. After 5/6 my backups started failing verification on the 50% mark.. Tried tweaking but all came out the same. Followed funksoulbrothers guide and my next burn was perfect.. BUT my second burn failed.... Rebooted PC (power cycle drive) and 3rd burn was ok again.. Fingers crossed I have my solution but KUDOS for this post as I was having a stack of coasters..

Here is my working method (to date)

Reboot PC
Disable Antivirus
Clear OPC History EEPROM
Write Speed 4x
Media Verbatim MKM-003 (India)
OPC OFF
Turn On Force HyperTuning
Turn Off Online HyperTuning
Turn On Smart Burn
Turn Off OverSpeed

Success

I also get better results burning at 4x with overspeed, smartburn enabled on my ihas124 using the mmk-001 (2.4x disks) clear opc data using eeprom tool after each burn, Run kprobe2 scan on your disk at 4x when completed. anything on the graph showing the blue at 100 or higher, or the red at 8 or higher is NOT good. Much better burn results. What media are you using that it keeps failing at the 50% point? I've had pif spikes of up to 1000 before I tweaked imgburn settings on xgd3 games, but the verification still passed.... Kprobe scan only needed (and highly recommended! for all xgd3 burns)

Ever since doing this to my drive its been fine burning dual layer dvds xbgds2/3 but when i try to burn a single layer dvd its not burning. It goes though the whole process of burn ing the disc an will get to 100% but take the disc out an thers nothing burnt to it?? Any one know what would be causing this??
