I had been told that the latest xgd3 disks (MW3, etc.) requires certain brand of Lite-on burner to work. Is that true? I just used a normal burner on BF3 (truncate method) and the disk boots up fine. Am I missing something?

Thanks

Yes. Discs can fail checks with that method. A new burner is necessary.

When a disk fails check, does it mean the game will suddenly become unplayable? Or would it only affect Live?

It would likely result in a ban, and other things are possible as well.

I don't care about Live, just want the game to work. I read somewhere that says the end of disk data is for checks. So if I just want the game to work, do I really need a lite-on burner?

Yes. You can take your chances, but it's unlikely that truncating will work forever.

Thanks for the info. It would be good if we have list that states what works and what doesn't work (even it's not Live safe).

Any progress on getting the overburn method to work on non-lite-on burner?

Just buy the burner. It isn't expensive. I got mine for under $20 at newegg.com

haha, it's not as easy as it sounds. I went to NCIX for the burner, and they told me that the all the B model got swap to A model after MS got wind of the burner trick. Some dude came in and bought like 40 B model at once, and now the entire NCIX is out of stock

I will call Newegg and see if their model is A or B. Also, in Canada Newegg doesn't have free shipping

HI just need some info based on the drives talk that was talked about here,

I bought a ihas324-98B from a local store I did the burner max tutorial but the drive does not detect the media in it (DL DVD & space available on it) could it be that this drive was swapped out for an A drive even thou the box has that info? how can I verify if the drive is a "B" drive and how can I verify if the flash was successful?

If you followed the tutorial that comes with the Burner Max F/W then you would have these answers. Go back and read through it again.
