I have a fully unmodified xbox that works fine except for one issue. It has a darkened picture with lines on the screen. Can't figure it out, i've tried cleaning the contacts on the A/V and xbox but that did nothing.
Is this fixable or am i screwed?

Composite? SCART? SCART/RGB? Component?

PAL? NTSC?

One TV? Many TVs?

Darkened - compared to what?

Picture settings for external sources almost always need adjusting. If you're using a TV Game mode picture setting pre-set the chance of it being useable, if my experience is anything to go by, is nil.

What type of lines?

Dark/light/thin/fat/vertical/horizontal/diagonal/moving/stationary/scrolling?

Any other external equipment attached or unshielded cables nearby?

I know there might be good reason for you only using Composite but S-Video (US), RGB SCART (UK/EU/AUS) or best of all Component will give you noticeably better picture quality. Of course if the Composite cable is the source of the problem, as it could be, you'll need to replace it anyway.

its got a black tint to it and i can connect just about any other console (wii, ps3, ps2, xbox360) and not have the problem.

horizontal and they are stationary but they change how strong the line is. Like 2 or 3 lines will be fat and the rest thin and it kinda switches around. I don't know if its normal for the picture itself to move up and down but it does that and its kinda uneven.

Everything seems to be shielded. Again this is happening on multiple TVs, even old tube tvs.

Well if it's happening with the same console with the same cable on a variety of TVs you know where the problem must lie.

Hopefully it is just a cable/connection problem but the only way to find out is to buy a suitable replacement, ideally one of those lead types mentioned earlier. If using that doesn't resolve the problem report back.

Good news guys, It was the composite cable! everything runs great with the component thanks for helping me debunk it while i waited for the replacement! And thankfully it was nothing worse than that.
