You get the eeprom backup with Evox or Config Magic. Use FTP to put them onto your Xbox and retrieve eeprom.bin from the Xbox.

The most likely explanation is that your DVD breaking is a coincidence, or that the cable is loose. Remove and reseat the IDE and power cable to the DVD. It's always possible that you fried the DVD drive while doing the hotswap, especially if you didn't earth the Xbox to your PC while you were hotswapping. If that's the case then you need a replacement DVD drive.

Unlikely, but it might happen once in a blue moon - you might just have been unlucky.

It's a straight physical swap, and doesn't need a tutorial.

I've already answered this. See the link in my signature for softmod hard drive upgrades.

Only if it's a spare Xbox DVD drive. You can make a standard DVD drive work, but it's not simple, and it will never read Xbox games.

Try another FTP client program - I had some weirdness with Filezilla when I first tried to use it, I was getting time out/error messages in one partcular instance.

As I mentioned in another thread here I found a free one: CoreFTP LE and used that instead. Exactly the same set up as I had been using with Filezilla, but it connected and worked first time without similar issue. CoreFTP LE is described by one well known web site as "a top notch freeware FTP client". Whatever, it worked for me and that's all I was interested in so I offer it up as a suggestion in this case.

I've not had any problems with Filezilla since but if there is some specific conflict between FlashFXP and your security software maybe worth trying something else. No guarantees of course. smile.gif

It's not the FTP client. Until you can ping the Xbox no FTP client will work, so you should focus on fixing that first.

I should have spotted this earlier, but if you have a chip why were you hotswapping?

I'm using Windows XP too so that eliminates at least one variable.

Shouldn't matter whether the PC is connected to the internet or not.

I do suggest you use the cross-over cable to connect direct to the Xbox rather than using the standard cable via router though. Again that will eliminate another variable which may be the source or part of the problem.

Hope it works but, as said, no guarantees.

just wonder why you hotswaped to start it if you were hardmodded..
you never needed to have the drive locked. any way thats something altogether diferent and dosent matter.

i was really lazy and simply scanned passed all the posts picking up on sopme words here and there..

So i would definatly check your hard disk jumper settings. i find they work better set to master.

as for the ftp.
are you set to dhcp?
if your set to static then it may well simply be displaying a static ip thats set for it but the router is not accepting it.
When it comes to vista i find that its better if everything is set to a static ip address, but with xp i find you can mix and match "unless 1 system is vista"
so make sure your set to dhcp.

also check that you havent edited your ftp password in any given CFG file.

although it sounds like your on a stock dash..
but there ya go,

now my theory..
you were probably softmodded. and now the new disk dosent have the softmod on there and your running stock so nbo ftp access..
having said That that makes absolutley no sence as i dont get how you locked the new hard disk if the old 1 was dead...
so that leads me to believe that your are chipped/tsoped but only have the stock dash on your xbox. and that the hard disk is not locked at all.

can you just turn off the xbox pull out the hard disk and put it in your pc. then use xplorer360 to view its contents (confirming that it is not locked)

if its not locked then you need to put the dash files on there to enable ftp.

i guess the 1st question that i should have asked is What dashboard are you on?

p.s
your default gatway is your routers ip address if you connect to the router with a straight through.
if your using a crossover but ICS is not set up on the pc then you dont need a default gateway.
you can also set the dns ip to the same as the default gateway.

Oops, should have realised this myself but after re-reading the earlier posts, Heimdal's comment and shambles1980's theory the problem can not be a FTP client issue.

Still CoreFTP LE does work with the Xbox so is a useful alternative if FlashFXP or Filezilla don't suit.

used hotswapped as when using the aid dvd it was giving error 16 (clock not set ) as my xbox was modded in 2003 with a hard chip underneath the mb ,it had the old dash .never been online for an update just the update done by the games so it must be an old bios not allowing the clock to set so aid didnt work
