I have a jtag xenon where the benq DVD drive only opens sometimes. I have tryed the drive in my falcon and it opened every time. The jtag did have the 12v fan mod coming of the DVD cable but I swapped it out with a stock cable and the same trouble.



Test results trying to eject

Power on with dvd = drive does not open, boots to XeLL. 9 out of 10 times

Jtag On in freestyle dash = drive does not open ,, 8 out of 10 times

Jtag on in NXE = drive does not open, 8 out of 10 times

Tryed the benq drive in a non jtag falcon and it was fine

Tryed a different benq and a Hitachi in the jtag xenondrive with the same odd results.

Any suggestions or input would be great

As we always recommend... remove all the mods you have on the mainboard (inclouding the JTAG) and then troubleshoot again.

Removed the jtag and still DVD drives still only open 2 out of 10 times...

I don't get it

Then maybe you have a failing dvd board on hand. Try another drive.

It could be the Belt for the tray cogs. Just did this repair for someone else. Their system was not Jtagged, just stock - & their tray would not open

Remove the Belt from the dvd tray motor. Rub some oil into lightly - the belt. Then, soak it in warm soapy water for about 1/2 hour.

Then lightly pat dry. Re- install. The belt's elasticity and grip will be restored for a time.

Clean the dirt and dust from all the plastic gears too. Use alcohol

Solved

Replaced the belts in all my drives and they all work great.
