Hello. I was wondering where I could start with making a wholy libre (Free as in freedom) Xbox 1? I'm guessing I would have to replace the BIOS as a start? :b

Flash Cromwell, then install one of the Xbox Linux distributions.

Is there a tutorial anywhere? I've looked all over and I gave up for a little while and now I'm back. I have an Xbox that had the HDD unlocked. Could I use Cromwell and GNU/Linux to restore it to operation? (Not worried about having the ability to play Xbox games on it tongue.gif ) Thanks!

I'm sure there'll be a tutorial on the Gentoox site, or in the "*nix OS on Xbox" forum here at Xbox Scene, especially the pinned topics.

Usually in Linux, flashing of bios is done through raincoat or with the booted copy of cromwell/xromwell.

Here's a portion of the flashing tutorial in archive.org

The installation portion can be found here
