I will be putting my falcon xbox 360 inside an old atx case i brought for a $1 and since i used the HD DVD's case on my other xbox 360 to externalize the dvd drive i will be throwing that in there with it as well

This is the case i will be using it was very dusty inside and still had almost a complete computer in there all stripped out and gave it a good clean will be painted a gloss black

the HD DVD drive and the xbox 360 dvd drive
IPB Image
Have already cut the legs off the xbox 360 dvd drive so it could fit in the 5.25" dvd drive case that was in the computer

the xbox 360 motherboard (obviously missing the heatsinks) but will be putting twin gen2 CPU heatsinks on there
IPB Image
And the smaller board is from the HD DVD drive

Just waiting for my dremel to get here should be here on Tuesday then i can get started any suggestions are welcome

Just a quick question is there anything wrong with using electrical tape or would it still be better to use heatshrink happy.gif

Heat shrink is always better but I'd be lying if I said I didn't use electrical tape as well.
Actualy hot glue is another favorite of mine...lol

Are you going to use the original power brick?
I'd wire up an atx psu to it if you have one powerful enough.

Keep us updated

My computer S#*t itself the other day so now i might put the xbox into that case it already has three blue led fans mounted in there and a clear side window and a 350w psu would that be powerful enough to power the xbox 360?

Will get some pictures of the case and just got my dremel well its not exactly a dremel its a rotary tool but goes just as well as a dremel for half the price im a bit busy during the week but will get some updates in the weekend
hopefully.

Started this myself, and it's not that hard it depends how much you want to modify the case

- Mount mobo
- Mount drives
- Extend cables / can buy J1D1 that are 50cm
- Extend RF/USB
- Wire up PSU - a lot of tutorials if you're not sure, quite easy to do

Start with those (all I can think of at moment) and then work on any modifications you want

As a word of 'warning' using an old case can be a pain in the a$$

It all depends on how many amps the 12v rail is putting out,.....I think you need 16-18 amps,...

Be carefull about wiring the 360 board to an ATX Psu. Get a Multi-Meter and check for shorts if you're soldering directly from the 360 board itself.

Nice case!

I'd get an Antec 300 or a mesh type casing for teh win!

Yes please post some PSU wiring on the 360 side to the PSU.

Just a suggestion but I would not wire your PC powersupply directly to xbox. Should the power supply die you will be pissed you have to desolder and resolder a new one in. I would suggest using one of the ATX power extensions and putting that on the xbox side.

Good call,......might as well take it one step further and wire that extension to the power conector for the 360,....that way if the board dies...lol well you get the picture wink.gif

I have to do it that way now anyway because my soldering iron isn't powerful enough to solder to the bottom of the board

UPDATE!!!!

I Have wired the pc psu up I just cut the wire off the power brick and soldered it to the psu with the 3 yellow, 3 black and the red on the 360 cord to the 3 yellow, 3 black, and one purple on the atx cord
IPB Image
And then tested it on my other 360 for 3 hours playing RAGE and it worked pefectly
IPB Image
Mounted the motherboard and both drives in the 5.25" cases and used the original face plates off them resized them with a file and filled the holes still have one to finish and paint but broke the top of it so will have to fix that (you cant see the cables when the case is standing up)

AFTER (changed the HD DVD Bezel with the original xbox 360 dvd bezel)

SWEET setup there! :D

Kudos to the wiring dude..

Did you use the Motherboard mounting screw to hold the 360 Board in the ATX case?

UPDATE!!!! continued

I hid all the wires at the top of the case so you cant see them when the clear side goes on
IPB Image

the xbox 360 cord has to go outside the case then bend back around to go back in but that doesnt bother me otherwise I wouldnt be able to use the av/HDMI ports at the back
IPB Image

still have to cut some of the metal case to be able to use the AV/HDMI,USB,Ethernet ports on the back
IPB Image

Theres a smaller circuit board in where the stock xbox 360 fans usually are which is for the HD DVD drive it only overlaps a little bit at each end but I might put some electrical tape there just to be safe
IPB Image

IPB Image
Thats just an old RROD board i have been using not the actual board I will be using

When I replace the heatsink with the 2nd gen cpu heatsink should i try put the original x clamps back on or should i use the nuts bolts and washers?

I used the case stand off's that were in the case just drilled custom holes to fit the 360 board and HD DVD board

Regardless, just use the bolt/washer setup. Just make sure to apply even pressure on the bolt/screws.
