Hey guys.

Found my old xbox the other day. I took the hard drive out of it (this was a larger hard drive I had installed many years ago into it).

I actually dumped the console out but I have the hard drive here.

Now what I want to know is, is it possible to read the HDD on my PC or at least format it to be used with a PC once again? I have connected it up to my PC but its not showing up. Been years & years since I modded it & I have forgotten all about xbox 1... blink.gif

Cheers!

Assuming you are running Windows on your PC, you should be able to use the disc management tool in administrative tools to set up and format the hard drive.

Thanks xboxmods

Yeah, I'm running Windows 7. I had a quick check of that before I posted mate & the disc does show up in the management tool. However, I cant seem to do anything with it at all except have a very basic browse about as below. Cheers for the help.

I haven't got a clue. I havent bothered with it in a very long time. I removed it from a Xbox (where I had used it as an upgrade to the original drive & it was fully working). It was a bigger HDD so I wanted to take it out before dumping my Xbox.

I have forgotten all about unlocking etc, can't even remember what that means etc. is the drive useless? No way to get it formatted?

download atapwd for a floppy drive OR make a xboxhdmdisk..
if you m,ake a xbox hdm disk boot to dos unlocking tools.

type ATAPWD
Tell it to unlock the drive and use..
XBOXSCENE
Or
TEAMASSEMBLY
as the passowrd..
Which ever one works tell it to Dissable the lock and use the same password..

Then you should be good to go in windows..

The same process is true for making a floppy bootable with ATAPWD.
just you dont have to select the dos unlocking tools 1st.

Thanks shambles. Just tried that there now mate.

I'm using a laptop & the HDD is sitting in a USB caddy. When I type ATAPWD, it informs me that there is "no ata drives detected". I wonder if this is something to do with me having it connected to the laptop via USB in a docking station? Any ideas?

That will be the issue..
ATApwd kind of gives the game away with its name..
so i guess you should try this instead..

Yeah, was thinking as much mate laugh.gif

Think I'll try to locate a desktop PC, save the hassle of that other link you gave. Thanks VERY much for all your help, greatly appreciated beerchug.gif
