Hey, I have a 1.6 xbox with a softmod. Sad no hacked bios.

I've once accomplished to add a 80GB IDE to my xbox using the xbhdm 2.2 usb.
I remember that I used a tutorial and the final result was unleashX+ndure.
So I saved my pendrive for future uses.

Since I couldn't find the tutorial I used back in the day I tried to do it using my memory.
Booted Slax and activated xboxhdm stage 2. Populated the E and F drives.
Choosed to lock drive inside linux and now it won't work on my xbox not even on my pc.

I get input/output errors or linux gives me no response from the drive.

I was trying with my first SATA HD. To get it to be set at /dev/hda I've used a sata-ide adaptor.
If I let it to be sata connected to my motherboard I would only get /dev/sda1.

So I'm lost. I will not try this kind of HD preparation with bigger HD. I've used an old 160GB HD before attempting it at a 2TB one.

I know I could used the xbox auto hack DVD but my drive is dead sad.gif

you sure its not just locked??
can you unlock it now and see it in linux?
you could try atapwd to unlock it with XBOXSCENE
your also not saying what error the xbox gives you when the hard disk is connected.

It's input/output error.

Ok, I'm working on another small sata HD I have here. I think I've found the problem and it's the IDE adapter.

So, I'm trying to avoid using the adapter.
I have an evga x758 and this is what I got so far

Jmicron1 and Jmicron2 controllers both IDE mode.
Jmicron 2 disable.

Sata 8 and 9 = becomes /dev/sda1
Sata 0 and 1 = becomes /dev/hdk and /dev/hdj
sata 2 and 3 = becomes /dev/hdh and /dev/hdi
sata 4 and 5 = becomes /dev/hdg and /dev/hdf

So I can't get it to go /dev/hda-b-c-d without the adapter.
Any help in getting it to be set like these would be awesome.

well if the disk is locked it will give I/O errors.. the disk is locked so you cant read or write to it...
If the bios detects the drive 99% chance its just locked..
unlock the drive..

Also You STILL dont say what error the xbox gives when you have the hard disk installed.

also xboxhdm as a default does not nativly support sata drives..
its ide or bust.

Got it working (using a 750GB HD) but I'm still having some problems this is what I did, from start to finish:

Got an old PC with 1 IDE and 2 SATA. All see as /dev/hda-hdb. So there was no need for the converter at this time.
Using xhdm 2.2 usb I did this:
.activated stage 2 on xbox hd
.build xbox hd from scratch
. yes to populate C E and F
. started NDURE script. Backup C. Install Ndure files only.
. lock HD

Ok on the xbox it takes 10 to 15 seconds longer to boot this HD but it boots inside UnleashX.

Here's the problem when I ask it to reboot I get ERROR 07: HDD timeout. I tried using another cable but that gave me a lot of random errors.
I only have 2 ide cables at the moment for testing.

I'm not sure if my dead xbox drive is giving me this problems.

BTW: I was using the ndure script option to replace C with NDURE and when I started to copy files via FTP the F drive just disappeared. All the files were lost. Even formating using xbpartitioner 1.1.

I'm copying some files as I type this and so far (4GB+ copied) seems fine.

Is it normal to take that long to boot with larger HDs?
Is it a known bug the reboot + error 07?

have you got a multi meeter?
error 7 is usualy because of low power to the 12v line (yellow wires)
theres a small potentiomiter on most psu's that you can twist to increase the power..

but you need a multimeeter to be sure..
Could also be IDE cable error.. so if you have some spare ones try them.
And how healthy is the IDE drive? If its dying you would have slow boot and error's too.. But again low power woulkd do the same thing.

Picture

Is that the one?

BTW, I'm not using the standard xbox cable.
Tested with 2 brand new IDE cables today and it gave me error 08.

I'm starting to think that only with the regular and original cable I will get this to work flawless.
Is there a way to mod a regular IDE cable to be like the one made by microsoft?

yeah thats the potentiomiter..

but you really need a multimeeter before you start playing with it..

And you can use a standard pc ide cable.. ata-100 is fine (80 wire) i use them all the time, it jus takes a bit of origami to make them fit.
