So I recently bought a XBOX DuoX 2 GS mod chip, and I see that everyone has a dashboard like unleashx are the dashboards necessary for everything to run smooth? This will be my first attempt at modding my xbox.
So any tips will be awesome >.< And if the dashboard is important then can someone tell me where to go to understand how to install everything without messing this whole thing up lol Thanks |

The dashboard is the thing you see on the screen, the software that allows you to pick games etc. from a menu. No dashboard = blank screen = useless Xbox, so yes, they are necessary.
You need to read some of the pinned topics and tutorials here on Xbox Scene, then come back with some more specific questions. Short version: - fit the chip - boot to confirm it works (the Blue DuoX2 GS comes pre-flashed with BIOSes) - Use a boot disk e.g. HeXEn (Google Heimdall's Xbox Engineering Disc) burned to DVD-R at 4x or slower, and use it to set up the disk and install the dash. |

If you've fitted a chip there's no need to use any dashboard other than the standard retail MS one. For several years that is exactly what I did. The only thing I was interested in at that time was playing the few US imports I had and PAL games in 480p. So I region changed my chipped PAL Xbox to NTSC using the Enigma region changer app on a disc somebody else burned for me and that was all.
But if you want to explore the full potential of your modded Xbox using an alternative dashboard is essential. All that happens is the MS one is replaced by an alternative (UnleashX, Evox, XBMC or Avalaunch etc) which has far more functionality. Which you choose is just a question of what you want to use your modded Xbox for and, of course, personal taste really. You can have them all just one click away as apps anyway How you get a new dash onto your Xbox is detailed in various tutorials you'll find here. I'd Google Auto Installer Deluxe, find and read its excellent online manual. If you're new to this stuff that will explain, to some degree, many of the things you need or may want to know about these matters. Also recommended is to follow the advice of Heimdall or one of the top experts here and you shouldn't go wrong. This post has been edited by fallenangle: Jun 20 2012, 01:03 PM |

One more question, Do I burn the dashboard on to a disk before I install it or can it be done through FTP?
And thank you guys very much,I will Google Heimdall's Xbox Engineering Disc, Auto Installer Deluxe. and is Heimdall's Xbox Engineering Disk a dashboard? If not then what is the best dashboard to use? I'm sure I'll have more questions This post has been edited by Blondi: Jun 21 2012, 04:15 AM |

Short version: Did you read this? It answers all of your questions.- fit the chip - boot to confirm it works (the Blue DuoX2 GS comes pre-flashed with BIOSes) - Use a boot disk e.g. HeXEn (Google Heimdall's Xbox Engineering Disc) burned to DVD-R at 4x or slower, and use it to set up the disk and install the dash. |
