Hi all,
My first post here smile.gif
searched the forums but couldn't find any answers to my dilemma so here goes. apologies in advance for the long post, trying not to miss anything cos i'm in Sri Lanka and there are no professional xbox repair places here sad.gif

I'm a proud owner of an older gen Xbox 360 arcade model. It's been with me for a good 4 years or so have have worked flawlessly all this time. Between work and a young son, i dont get a lot of time to play
This model didn't come with an HDD and all this time i was saving games in a 256mb memory unit.

Recently i got gears 3 and and to run that game, i needed to apply a heavy update to my unit and the memory card i had with me didn't have enough space for it.
Ordered a HDD off ebay and until that comes, i updated the dashboard and used a 8gb Sandisk pen drive to install the update into. The pen drive passes the xbox speed test and stuff and after installation i managed to get gears 3 running.

However, after about an hour into the game...the screen froze and the game was stuck. After a reset managed to get things going again but it froze yet again.

Today morning tried to play again but the game froze barely minutes into startup. After a reset, it froze before even loading the dashboard.
I tried to "clear" the update by holding the syn button while powering the unit up. But that too didn't work and to make matters worse i was getting 3 redlights.

Tried without the pendrive and i still get 3 redlights.

Took the pendrive out, formatted it and copied update files into it after downloading them off the MS site.
Plugged it in and tried to boot up but still i get three red lights.

after googling managed to get the secondary error code and that turns out to be 0110.
Also the power brick light turns and stays on green while i get this red light error.
Before turning the xbox on, it's orange as it should be

I only play original games and the unit hasn't been meddled with at all. I'm kicking myself for trying to use the USB to save updates into sad.gif sad.gif

Appreciate any pointers on this cos i'm really really screwed sad.gif sad.gif

This sounds like just really bad timing for the inevitable. Does it ever boot? Unplug everything and try clearing the update again.

0110 almost always means a cold solder joint under one of the chips. Most likely one of the RAM bricks, but could also be the GPU since you reported the screen freezing. You'll have to have the Xbox repaired by someone with a reworking station. Either a reflow, or even better, a reball. It may not be worth the money to even have it repaired since the new slims have gone down so far in price and you can probably even get a better phat version on ebay for a decent price (go for the Jasper phat model if you do this, its the most reliable out of any of the revisions. It's 2009 and early 2010).

Sorry and good luck. I don't think this is related to your memory stick at all though.

Thanks for the detailed reply.
Will check up locally and see how much it will cost me for a reballing job.
If it proves to be costly, will go for another phat 360 off ebay smile.gif

I'm into car DIY big time so can get a heat gun, reballing stuff and even take a shot it doing the rablling job myself for kicks. Seen plenty vids on youtube
