> Modchip Installed Fine, But Not Working. Boots To Default Ms Dashboard, DuoX2 GS White

A friend and I are modding an Xbox 1.0 with a cheap DuoX2 GS White we bought for $15.

It's wired in correctly and we've checked every possible issue a thousand times. All the solder points are fine, there's no splashing, the chip SHOULD be working... but whenever we start up the Xbox it boots to the default dash no matter what bank the chip is on.

The modchip is just dead weight in the xbox right now.

Can anyone give me some troubleshooting help or maybe help me figure out what the hell to do?

just install a dash..
easy enough to do now..
I recomend doing it as folows..

Download heimdalls xbox engineering disk. and burn it to dvd-r at 4x or slower.

then tell it to flash the mod chip's bios.. "probably needed updating any way so it gets full lba support"
depending on what version xbox you have either use the m8+ bios for 1.6 xboxes. or the 256k IND bios.. for 1.0-1.5
it will expand the 256k if you have a bigger bank.
(you may need to do some more rebuilding of the lpc if your not using a 1.0-1.4 though. 1.5 and 1.6 need extra soldering work)
any way when you flash a new bios, it will auto install the dash board for you.

alternetavly.

you can use hexen "heimdalls xbox engineering disk" to access FTP and file explorer on your xbox.
then you can manually move dash board files to the hard disk.

because you are chipped hexen will boot from dvd "provided you used dvd-r burnt at 4x or slower"

you could also try clean install C partition after tsop flahs. BUT i think it will refuze to do that as you dont have any dashboard filoes for the mod chip already..

But YOU CAN do a fresh install hard disk which will install stock files to c wipe out e and replace it with basic files and dash files and give you a niceblank canvas to start from..
you may also want to use xbppartitioner "available directly form the hexen disk" to partition your hard disk. even if its stock you could get 2gb extra space.

but personally..
id just tell it to flash a new bios.

oh..
and you have connected the D0 correct? cos if not then you wont be booting the chip.

and did you strap BT to pin 2, or ground.(prety much the same thing = chip always on)
or did you connect it some where els..
depending where you solderd bt to could need a diferent boot method to start the chip.

any way if you have any issues after trying that "like you cant boot the hexen dvd"

we will need to know exactly what version xbox you have.
where you solderd BT to..
and where you solderd D0 to.

Where the hell can I get HeXEn? I've looked everywhere, done many searches, tried many torrent sites. No download links, no seeds, nothing.

I've looked that exact search up along with other variations several times.

Dead links and unseeded torrents on public trackers.

Edit:
I found one SPECTACULARLY slow download. It's not the best, but... it's all I can find.

should give you the 1st link as a decent download.
if you search exactly what i told you to search..

you could also do
"Download heimdalls HeXEn xbox engineering disc"

but either way should find you the download.. unless google has blocked the web page for your local.

Well I've got the disc burned... but now the Eject button on my Xbox doesn't work at all.

The console won't even turn on by the eject button.

probably just lose at the back try pressing the pcb in as you push the eject button.
if that wont work. does the xbox power on and off ok with the power button..

you could have some corroded traces.

Okay, that issue aside and while I have you here...

I have only ONE xbox with ONE modchip.

What can I do in relation to the original post of the thread?

The xbox is not soft modded in any way nor do I have a way to soft mod it. The only computers I have around are laptops and I don't have any of the games to exploit or a way to transfer savegames to a memory card (or, indeed, a memory card in the first place)

Am I screwed?

Last I checked all the pins on the chip and the motherboard were lined up correctly, D0 was soldered to the back of the motherboard like everyone says to do, the BT is soldered to G for always on, and there's no solder drippage anywhere or anything of that nature.

What went wrong?

You dont tell us if you were able to boot hexen.

i see you have a 1.0 xbox. so you should be good with the standard install..

if you cant boot hexen I would check the d0 point personally.

It says it doesn't recognize the disc.

I burned it at 2x speed in Nero.

I'm still not understanding. Why should an unmodded Xbox be able to read this disc when it boots to the standard MS dash?

because if the mod chip was installed properly "like you said in the 1st post" It is modifed, and it just has no dashboard..
A dashboard does not make a modified xbox.. A dash board is something you add to a modified xbox to get more functionality out of your modified xbox..

I would definatly check my d0 wire solder work.
dosent sound like the box is booting from the lpc at all.

I would also double check the dvd player boots anything at all "retail game".

are you sure your xbox is a 1.0.. not a 1.5 or 1.6 excetera..

maybe you could take some pics of the solder work.
