"an Error Has Occured" When Inserting Any Wii Game Options

A friend brought me a Wii console that will no longer load Wii games. The system is not modded. Whenever we insert a Wii game a black screen comes up that says" An error has occured, please eject disk and turn off console". I replaced his laser and the problem persists. I then replaced the entire dvd drive with a spare that I know works and still have the same issue. Any other ideas on what could be causing this issue?
