I have now downloaded and burned the Mandrake Boot CD.

I have tested the CD-RW's I use, and they are OK.

When the Linux boots, it comes to quite some errors, and ends (Freezes) up with this error:

(The missing characters is because my lousy TV)

-
??2: bad access: block=16, count=2
??_request: I/O error, dev 03:02 (hda), sector 16
??d_super_block: bread failed (dev 03:02, block 8, size 1024)
??nt: error 22 mounting reiserfs
??otroot: pivot_root(/sysroot./sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
??ounting devfs at correct place if necessary
??nted devfs on /dev
??eing unused kernel memory: 132k freed
???el panic: no init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.

I have of course tried different CD's and the standard 8 GB HDD.

Anyone have any help ?

The system:

Bios: EvoX 2.4
HDD: Tried a couple, 8 GB std.

stoney, have you literally just downloaded the Boot CD and run it without running the Installation CD first? 'Cause it looks like the Boot CD is looking for an installed version of Linux on the HD and not finding it.

Mind you I was never able to get either CD to boot, I ended up extracting the files and running them from EvolutionX. The installation works OK booted from the hard disk as long as you still have the Mandrake Installation CD in the drive.

I just did it yesterday - worked great.

1. Dl the whole Xbox Linux Mandrake 9.0.zip
2. Burn both CDs (Boot, and Install)
3. Insert Install CD, reboot - boot whatever
4. Type setup (for 10gb hd) or setup8 (for 8gb hd)
5. Wait, wait wait.....
6. When install is finished insert boot CD and restart.

You can also copy the 4 files off the install cd on to your HD and use evox to launch it instead of the boot cd.

You may also want to back up you HD before installing.

I did the install on a 10gb hd and x-ecutor chip. Works great.

Correction: to boot from HD copy the 4 files from the BOOT CD - to HD and launch from evox.

And one other tip, you need to set your Xbox date and time before you start installing, otherwise it freaks out with lots of "aargh, these files are from the future!" messages.

Well, Case closed...

I don't know how to say this:

I read the "readme", and tried to install...

No luck, read the "readme" again - Tried again...

Tried like 20 times, new CD-RW's, new keyboard, another Xbox...

Finally gave up. Tried to get help here and on IRC.

4 days, no luck...

But a couple of days ago, I got it...

Shame to say it:

I used the Boot CD, and not the Install CD (As the "Readme" told me to)

So all this time, have seen wrong in the "readme" - SHAME on me...

Thx for the help on this issue - Hope to get help on the next issue
