Plus you wouldn't actually notice any major performance increase. Nope no faster transfer speeds, or write speeds because xbox uses ATA/33 controller, which limits the use of any HDD to that speed.

Buy a cheap 5400RPM EIDE drive. It'll cost about half as much and hold 3 times the number of games.

nah it isnt a waste of money, im new to Xbox hacking, this was a learning experience, and can use the drive in my PC tongue.gif

hmm so you say the got 33mhz IDE port, whats the "E" part you added before??
also i gather that the ram is the 2 small square chips? and there is room for 2 more?
how much does ram cost (aus. dollars tongue.gif ) ? and does it help?
i really want to pump the bitch up, HDD space is no concern for me... i want speed, anything for speed, need to drop those loading and saving times! tongue.gif

any advice for a newb would be appreciated

you should really do a search, because adding ram has been discussed many times before, and isnt really worth it even if you had the skills to install it. (it is not easy to install)

and the E in EIDE stands for enhanced. if you want a bigger hdd then take xeero's advice get a cheaper 5400rpm drive for the box.

EIDE has been the standard for some time and replaced IDE a while ago. However, most people just throw around IDE casually. I use 'IDE' most of the time to save myself a keystroke, though sometimes that sneaky 'E' weasels it's way in there.
