The answer is no it does not have to be 120.

Whatever your heart desires. Most people use 120's because they seem to give the best space vs. price tradeoff. 120 gigs is a whole lot of room for games and movies and you can find them around my area or the internet for $50-90 depending on the sales and rebates.
