I read a lot of people complaining about network transfer time not being what its supposed to be. I think its pertinent to know, an often overlooked fact is that when company's report the speed of a product it is in Mbps, as in Megabit per second, not Megabyte. There are 8 Mbits in a Mbyte, so divide the advertised speed by 8 to get how many MB/sec it transfers. 108 Mb/s = ~13.5MB/s, 54Mb/s = ~6MBps, 11Mb/s = ~ 1.375MB/s.

1MB = 8 Mb. Also, there is transmission loss when dealing with wireless bu tit isn't devastating to the speed. a 100BaseT ethernet line is comparable to a strong connection on a Wireless 108Mbps network.....just thought i'd help you gusy out a bit.

If anyone can help on this it would be appreciated...i have the xbox and ftp all set up and am able to log in to the xbox...no problems there at all...the only problem i seem to have is that my C and E drives on the xbox are empty...i am trying to back them up before i start really messing with the box...i can transfer the empty folders to the pc but they are completely empty...if anyone knows why this is please let me know...or if i am possibly approaching this in the wrong way let me know as well...

QUOTE (Cannon @ Jul 3 2004, 08:09 PM)
I've been successfully ftping to my xbox with a crossover cable for some months now. However, I recently just tried to ftp (using the exact same method I have hundreds of times) and it just won't work for me.

My xbox's IP is the default 192.168.100.10, I set my PC's ip to 192.168.100.11

FlashFXP seems to connect when I click the connect button, but none of my xbox's directories appear in its window and I get this in the log window:

Connecting to 192.168.100.10
Connected to 192.168.100.10 Port 21
220 Please enter your login name now.
USER xbox
331 Password required for xbox.
PASS (hidden)
230 User xbox logged in , proceed.
SYST

REST 100

This site may not allow file resuming
PWD
257 "/" is current directory
TYPE A
200 Type set to ASCII.
PASV
502 pasv is not implemented.
PORT 192,168,100,11,4,221

nothing happens for a few moments, and I finally get something along the lines of this:

425 Can't open data connection to 192.168.100.11:14852
502 ÿôÿòÿòabor is not implemented.

I've tried a couple of other ftp clients just in case but I get the same problems.

This is indeed puzzling.

i had the same problem
in the last part it says:

PASV
502 pasv is not implemented.

in FlashFXP--->Options--->Preferences(or press F6)--->Proxy/Firewall/Ident

uncheck the box "Use Passive Mode"

If you connect to the internet using a dialup connection you will use an RJ11(modem) - telephone socket to connect to your phone line.

ok
I have a brief question which was already posted once or twice but not answered yet
however

DO I need to have a Dashboard (like evoX) installed on my xbox to build up a ftp-connection or does it work with the usual dashboard (from MS).

Cause I've tried to ftp my xbox via crossovercable directly - ip-configuration is right - that's for sure, but I couldn't connect - there wasn't any response either.
(aditional info: I'm running windows XP service pack 2)

thanks

I have a problem connectiong now that I'm using my router to share dsl with another computer. Before When all I was using was the router and just the xbox I could connect fine and dandy but throw in a dsl connection and it's a whole different story. My router ip is 192.168.0.1 it's the same for dhcp server, dns server and default gateway. Now I tried the method I read about , about turning off static ip and rebooting to see what ip the xbox would pick up and it picked up 192.168.0.103 so I know that is the same range as the ip of my pc which is 192.168.0.100. I tried this ip in flashfxp and nothing no connection. I changed in evox the ip to 192.168.0.103 the defualt gateway as 192.168.0.1 and both dns slots as 192.168.0.1 . Does anybody got any ideas on how I can fix this to work with the router and also have the dsl enabled incase I want to play with kialink or something. It's been about two weeks since I have connected to the xbox. thanks

Hi, ok i'm finding out i'M a big noob to this FTP thing...i've been browsing this forum four hours now and i'M starting to hallucinate crossover cables and network cards everywhere....

Here is what i want to know.

I have 1 network card on my PC, 1 xbox, 1 cable modem, 1 crossover cable and Flash FXP. Is it possible, to FTP my XBOX/PC together ? I don't care if i lose internet connection while i FTP. If it is possible, what do i need to connect where, and what should be my IP settings ? If it ain't possible, what am i missing ? I've looked at some turorials on here but i can't get it to work and right now my head is about to explode.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Hi Everyone, I just bought a chipped xbox v1.6 last week and I am trying to connect it to my PC with a crossover cable.

I have read numerous websites and have set my settings as follows:

PC
Static IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

XBOX
Static IP: 192.168.0.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Flashfxp
IP: 192.168.0.2
Port: 21
username: xbox
password: xbox

When I try to connect with these settings using Flashfxp I get this error:
Connecting to 192.168.0.2 -> IP=192.168.0.2 PORT=21
Connected to 192.168.0.2
Connection failed (Connection lost)

Any Ideas?

i had the same problem, now i get 4,500+ with flash fxp. go into your router settings and make sure that the ip for your xbox has port 21 tcp/udp opened. thats all i did. i usually do all my transfers while the xbox sits at evox' main menu.

I recently bought a belkin network card for my laptop and a belkin ethernet bridge for my xbox.
I have an xecuter 2.6 fitted running evolution dashboard.
I don't have the slightest idea about networks and was wondering how to set it up. I don't have a router and just want the two connected to swap files. any help would be extremely valuable
