jester.gif But these VGA adapters do not really give good quality picture - they just convert the PAL/NTSC signal to VGA.

The peopel at xbox-linux are working on a REAL VGA output directly from the xbox. With an appropriate BIOS, you can then play all the games on a VGA Screen with better quality.

I am waiting for that thing to come out...

Yes you can, but the ones on that site are nothing more than component input to VGa adapters, and they look horrible and blurry.

The only 2 that I know of that do work, and output at 480p, and 780p are located here:

Just make sure you get one that outputs true 480p or else you'll get some really blurry graphics.

The guy Ken builds a non-interlaced VGA adapter. The store bought ones have only refresh 30 times a second instead of 60, and aren't true VGA.

Also if you have a video card like the ATI All-In-Wonder 9700/9800 pro you can play your X-Box on you monitor...I've done it a few times with mine.

I did not note how old this post was. However Team Xbox (www.teamxbox.com) recently reviewed a $60 unit that converts into all the formats. I cannot get to the review, it is under their "features" section which is under construction. I have the review bookmarked at work...if i remember i will post it here.

Well looky here, i remembered beerchug.gif

There's also this one that seems to be nice:

I don't have one (yet) but the reviews are pretty positive. Review links are on the site...

I'm using one of those and I think it's great. The picture on my monitor is crisp and clear - as good as the picture from my pc (albeit at a lower resolution). It has a 480i mode which is fuzzy but good enough for 5 mins to let you set the dash to 480p. The revised "+" model which I have has vga-passthru for your pc.

I currently have the Redant Sagestar VGA Box and would like to strongly advise people to avoid it. Even with extensive fiddling with the contrast and brightness controls both on the VGA Box and the monitor itself i was still unable to get a very useable picture.

It was blurry and colour was so weak it might as well have been a old B&W movie! jester.gif

I also tried using Svideo input through my ATI Radeon 9800SE card and this was actually quite impressive picture quality was far clearer than with the dedicated VGA Box and colours were much stronger. Of course it was only running at standard TV resolution but still was impressive despite this.

The VGA box mentioned there looks very impressive and i am glad to see it offers true HDTV resolution to make use of the monitors improved display quality.

I think i would be quite interested in getting one but since the site is US based and i am in the UK im not sure if i will be able to get one. Will they ship to the UK and has anyone else in the UK managed to get this VGA Box. What sort of shipping costs am i likely to have to pay?

Another thing; will UK PAL games support the 480P and beyond display modes needed to use this VGA box or is it only US software that supports this?

Sorry for all the questions hope someone can help me out

many thanks in advance smile.gif
