I bought an external USB hard drive enclosure, and a USB to XBOX adapter. I have connected it to a modded XBOX. I can't seem to see the new drive in any program. I tried the format command in evox, but it didn't seem to do anything. It doesn't show up in FTP like mem cards do.

I don't want to use the external drive on a PC, just for XBOX. I think I need to format it or partition it or something. Any idea on how to do this?

I didn't use HDprepare because it's not going inside the XBOX, and there's no need to boot from it. How do I get FATX on the disk?

Thanks in advance :-)

Its damn near impossible to use a external USB enclosure with an xbox. You have to have some technical savvy to make a controller card that can read and write fatx drives. USB 1.1 external drives use "PIO Modes". This is a translation method not supported by the xbox. The xbox's integrated Hard Drive bus only recognizes ata100. Its possible to use those portable "Memory Keychains". I have done some expirimentation without any sucess. My next method to try and get this to work is to fool the xbox into thinking that a memory card is plugged in when in fact all data transferred to it is being passed through a USB hard drive ( which i know will probably take some time to work). Remember that the XBOX controller itself is in fact a modified USB HUB. Maybe somebody can create a homemade xbe file to recognize usb drives and obtain data from them like an ftp connection....................................................?

To Use the drive in your xbox make sure it is ata100 compatible. Secondly plug the drive in your computer, run fdisk or any hard drive utulity and delete all the partitions on that drive. Plug the partitionless drive in your xbox and then run slayers evox cd and choose format large HD. the rest is all easy

Your xbox will think its a large memory card. Use the original MS dash to format it then it will apear as a a drive letter. I have done this with several devices including a digital camera.
