Ok.. I changed some files on my xbox via evox-ftp and I didn't make a backup :
When I boot the box it gets error 16 or 14 or 20 depending on if I put a game in before it boots. I want to try and hot swap the HDD to my computer so I can fix the files, but I don't know if the xbox only boots to an error screen whether or not it is unlocking the HDD? Can anyone help or give an alternative method? (I don't have the HDD key stored anywhere... |

OK, you are not in as bad of shape as you think.
You probably just renamed your dash file, either evoxdash.xbe or xboxdash.xbe, and now your xbox cant find a dash to boot. Just boot off of your evox disk and copy over the default.xbe to the c: drive and rename it evoxdash.xbe. Chances are that you lost the default dash so you will want to get a copy of that, but you don't need to worry about that right now. You also need to make sure that your bios is up to date. If you have an old evo-x bios, you will need to name your new dash xboxdash.xbe which is not a good thing and most likely got you into this mess in the first place. |

I was using the font exploit and have no mod chip; how can I get to evox? Also, the only solution I've been able to think of is getting a mod chip and booting to evox like you suggested. Is there a cheap mod chip that works decently that I can get to do this, I don't really want to shell out a bunch of cash just because I renamed a file wrong; the mod chip would only be to get to evox, get rid of the font exploit and get on the audio one, not perminant so it doesn't need anything fancy like a toggle switch for live or anything, any ideas? |

Id go with the X2 lite + if I were you. There is no soldering required and you can easily take it out once you are done. However, there is a pretty high price for them right now( around $60 but I havent priced them recently) You can go with cheaper ones, but the X2s are pretty reliable and other cheaper chips require soldering. Then again there is always the option of buying a chip with the ability to add a pogo pin adapter, but thats a whole different thing. Good luck |
