hi all , i am thinking of buying a xbox mainboard second hand, the xbox had been dropped and the bloke says 'as far as he's aware the mainboard is working' , in the event of the xbox being dropped what are the likelyhood of the mainboard being fine, i would assume that the thing to have gone would be the hard drive, what bleeps and flashes will the xbox give out to give some clues

unless it was run over after being dropped ( or dropped from a tall building) it's unlikely the board is damaged. Both the cd and hard disc are much more vulnerable. Have him power it up and give you the error codes ( in the top right of the "your xbox needs service screen"... - there's an faq with error codes translated. - run a search after you get the codes).
If he won't power it up, run! - it's probably a skrood mod job he's playin' dumb about...
