I got my xbox working wonderfully with st.db exploit running the phoenix 1.3 loader (and then boots into evox)
Now I want to upgrade the orginal disk with a 120GB Barracuda (as in my last xbox with a modchip)

A few questions after reading tons of postings

1) Will ConfigMagic and evoxbackup give me the right password for unlocking the disk since the eeprom has been tampered with?
2) Since I use the audio-exploit, which means I still using the original msdashboard, will it just crawl together and die with a larger disk?
3) What is exactly the key i should use when unlocking with unlockx? Some forumpostings says "unique hdd key" in configmagic, but "Current hdd unlock password" seems more logical?

Hum?

First make sure u make "backup" with evox and ConfigMagic. Then ftp to PC."Unique HDD key" thats what it's called.CUZ it's unique to ur xbox only. tongue.gif

running reloaded Fonts>Phoenix w/x2 4977>evox. I was able to upgrade 3 HDD with eazz.

1)If the tamped eeprom can unlock ur original HDD without a modchip then yes.
2)It should be exatly as the original hdd but with more capacity.
3) with evox it's called HDD key. With ConfigMagic it's "generated password" "unique hdd key" only generates the "generated password" for ur HDD.

bitbyte,

I'm in the same situation as you are. I've not been able to either unlock my original xbox drive, or correctly lock my new xbox drive. I'm suspecting that the eeprom.bin that evo-x outputs is not what the eeprom.bin would look like from the virgin, original BIOS prior to phoenix's bootstrapping.

Thanks for helping trigger the thought of this possibility. I think what I might try to do is install evo-x without the phoenix, and see if the eeprom.bin from it's backup function gives me a different set of calculated passwords from liveinfo.

Hey syntie Install ConfigMagic to ur oldHDD then run it.Now copy down the "Unique HDD key" >32< characters..sit in front of ur tv..Open up LiveInfo and paste the "unique" that u got from the tv.That will generate new generated password....

Cuz for some reason the xbox "Unique HDD key" is not the same when u open it up with LiveInfo. And coping the right key over should get that app working ph34r.gif

Deadly,

Thanks for your attempts to help.

It seems as if the unique HDD key is what makes the password for the hard drive.

But when I attempted to do as you suggested, I didn't notice a difference between what was scraped from the eeprom.bin and what config magic shows on the screen.

When I attempt to lock the drive with the password generated from liveinfo, I can successfully lock and unlock the drive in DOS, but the xbox errors out with a 06, which from what I read means that the drive can not be unlocked.

I took that to imply that the password I was using in the first place was incorrect.

So then the question is.. does the unique HDD key get altered when phoenix loads? Doesn't seem like that'd be altered.

All,

Just wanted you all to know that I figured out my error. smile.gif I was adding the password to lock the drive in all-caps for the A-F characters, and the dos-based utility is in fact case-sensitive.

Thanks for the help.

Did you manage to unlock your old drive?
I still can't get it to work here.

The full procedure if you please :-)

Finaly got it to work.

I just had to run unlockx twice. (I know it says so in all forums, but it just says "unable to unlock" så i though it didn't work

But.

*sigh*

When setting a new password on the new 120GB disk I think I made a spellingmistake and it won't boot or unlock again.

Is there any way to wipe that password, or do I have to throw the new 120GB in the garabage..

boot into windows and look at the floppy with unlockx on it. there should also be some text files that have the passwords that you locked drives with. i had the same problem and almost chucked the drive 'till i got it to work. and i have the st.db exploit with phoenix 1.3 and a 80 gig hard drive installed. but for me i used the password in configmagic that said "current hard drive unlock password." not the unique hard drive key. difference is about 8 characters.
