As i was bored of DVDX V2 with no remote control support, i decided to search for a way to have a Region Free M$ Dashboard !
Then i discovered DVDX V1 that is a XBOX Software that patch the Dashbord to turn it into a Region Free Player.
Unfortunatly, this patch is only working with to first version of M$ Dashboard sad.gif
So, using a desassembler, i merged the modifications to the latest version of the Dashboard (v4920).
So here is the result of my work :
*URL Removed as there is a newer version *
All you have to do is :
- Get your xboxdash.xbe file on your PC
- Run the patch and apply it to your xboxdash.xbe
- Put the patched file back on your XBOX
- Watch your favorite DVDs using your high tech remote controler (not the porn ones laugh.gif )

Hope it will be usefull for you !

Sylver

Edit 4 :
Here is version 1.04 :
http://dwl.xbox-scene.net/~xbox/xbox-scene...Patch_v1.04.zip

V1.04 (30/04/2004) :
Added support for following dashboard version :
- 5960 rev. 185a6100 (tested)
Removed support for version 4627 as it doesn(t seem to exist !

Edit 3 :
Here is version 1.03 :
*URL Removed as there is a newer version *

V1.03 (03/10/2003) :
Added support for following dashboard version :
- 5659 rev. 17f14d00 (tested)

Edit 2 :
Here is version 1.02 :
*URL Removed as there is a newer version *

V1.02 (17/09/2003) :
Added support for following dashboard versions :
- 4627 (untested)
- 5659 rev. 17e4cd00 (tested)
Added a patch remover (will remove the DVD region free modifications, usefull if you didn't make a backup)

Edit :
Here is version 1.01 :
*URL Removed as there is a newer version *
It will patch the following versions :
- 3944 (untested)
- 4034
- 4817
- 4920 rev. 10027100
- 4920 rev. 1012a700

It won't patch the version 4627 (and versions that i don't know)

Pure f***in genius!!!! Its works perfectly. Word of warning though, you need a virgin unpatched .xbe (my dash was patched with progpacther and it didn't work first time!!) You need to apply the region free patch first then progpatcher if you want progressive scan!!

It even works with RCE encoded DVDs

Now all I need is built in FTP and its finally good by to EvoX!!!

Tested on PAL machine running US NTSC Bios

So if I wanted say a true blue dash, I'd use this dvd patch on a virgin dash, THEN apply the trublue patch and hacks?

I'm doubting the trueblue patcher would work, since the .xbe would be different than what's expected....

Any ideas how I could have a blue dash AND region free w/ remote? I also hated how the remote was not in dvdx2

It works perfectly, just use the following order when patching

1. DVD region
2. Colour Patch (DashColorPatcher v0.1.1beta Public) NB don' forget this
WORKS ONLY FOR DASHBOARD 4920 (10027100 one)
3. Any other patch you may need (Soundtrack patcher etc)
4. Progpatcher if needed

For some reason it just seems to be progpatcher that crashed the entire .xbe

Sweet, cheers for that, that is the dash version I have.

I don't even know what the soundtrack patcher does, so I don't need this wink.gif

And I'm guessing the progpatch makes everything progressive? I don't think I really need this either.

Does anyone know if this patch is compatible with the 480p progressive scan patch? I have a an xboxdash I patched for high def right now to play my DVDs and remote and want it to be both high def and region free.

Great work man!!! This is fantastic.. Ive always been curious myself if this was attainable. Now its kinda nice using the remote control again. Great KUDOS to you! beerchug.gif

Id make sure you come out w/ updates as newer dashboard updates (via XBL).

Also i got this to work.. But I had to disable autoplaydvd in evox.. cuz it jumped to evox

Thanks!

Thanks a lot, I've been looking forward to this!

DBZRacer: Try applying the progressive scan patch afterwards. If it doesn't work, you could try doing a file compare on the progressive xbe and the original to see which bytes to change in the region free xbe.

Gr8 one, been waiting for this since long, never liked DVDX2 that much.

Pitty it doesn't work without a modchip/hacked bios, you'll get error 13, because the signature of the xboxdash isn't valid anymore.

Now I patched xboxdash.xbe, renamed it to xboxdash-regionfree.xbe, copied that one to my C:, put it in evox.ini as default DVD-player so it starts it up when I insert a DVD-video after I boot up Evox. The original xboxdash.xbe is still on C: and boots when the chip is switched off.

I also added xboxdash-regionfree.xbe under the apps-tree in evox.ini, in case I want to switch off autoplay, instead of DVDX2 I then can load the patched xboxdash.

Tried it with region 2 dongle and a region 1 movie and it worked.

Works on my 4920 (Live) modded XdashUtil Dashboard! I have a NTSC Xbox vers 1.0 with a 120 GB Western Digital HDD, with an Xecuter 2 Pro on a 4977 BIOS and Evox 3752 Dash.
Tested with Predator 2-disc Special Edition Region 2! The Movie plays!! Wahoo!
Thanks
