Great work man! What a nice little patcher. I have only one Region 2 DVD, and it is playing it just fine. smile.gif

No need to use the cumbersome DVDX anymore!

Seriously, thanks!

I just tried it on 4817, didn't work.
Too bad. It probably is just as easy a fix, but a different alingment...

Sylver77: Could you tell which six-byte string it is that's beeing patched and I'll try it on 4817 with a hexeditor.

And no, I don't have live so I can't update the dash.

you can still play live, you just put you hacked dashboard on the f or e drive and hex edit the patched xboxdash.xbe to point to f or e that will keep your c drive default for live. smile.gif

axelsson :
here are the bits changed :
45F874296A05 changed to 45F8EB296A05 (changed a conditional jump to an inconditional one)
and :
33C98A4DFF33C0B00149D2E0F6D0506A44FFB344010000E8E1B110008DB348010000566A44FFB344

3137060057576830D00100E904FEFFFF
changed to
C645FF0133C98A4DFF33C0B00149D2E0F6D0506A44FFB344010000E8DDB110008DB348010000566A
44FFB344010000E833B110008BC8B80000008023C83BC87509FE45FF807DFF0676BC909090909090
90909090909090909090909090909090 (big changes in the code : mainly an instruction inserted in the begining (C645FF01), few changes in the jumps offsets due to code insertion and some code deletion at the end of the function plus some 0x90 = nop instructions to fill the same space that the original function)

Obsiously, the patcher didn't find the "big" part so it was not able to patch it (that's why it tell you that only 6 bytes have been patched).
If i have time, i'll try to make a patch for others dashboard versions (maybe next week).

THANKYOU SO MUCH!

Region-free DVD was the main reason I modded my Xbox (believe it or not), and it always annoyed the crap out of me that if I wanted to watch anything other than R4 crap, I wouldn't be able to use the remote or I'd have to downgrade the dash and do a heap of crap. But now... Woo! Thanks for this patch. Excellent!

Gcue's trueblue patch don't work after the region free patch as I thought....

My question, if I want blue dash, is there a config file for DashColourPatcher for blue dash somewhere, or do I have to make one? I like Gcue's trueblue colours, and would like to use those.

Here are some informations about the patch : it does a search & replace on 2 sequences of bytes in the .xbe, as these bytes are only for DVD zone selection, there is no reason that my patcher do not find them unless your have an old dashboard (as blue patch & progressive scan patch do not alter this code)!
I tryed my patch on a blue dashboard (using tis patch : http://xload.fiberhost.info/viewtopic.php?t=36 ) and it worked well, so i guess that people having problems do not have the latest version of m$ dashboard (4920) !
I also tried the progressive scan patch (thanks XanTium) and then my patch, and it worked well !

Please tell me what version of the dashboard you have, and i'll try to do a patch for these versions ASAP (maybe next week)

Hey, great work but did you know that XBMP supports the remote and plays DVD movies? No region free, so I wonder if you could patch XBMP?? smile.gif

I know that xbmp supports the remote (great for divx wink.gif ), i never tested DVD playback on it, but anyway, as it is an opensource project made by brillant people, i'll never patch it !
And as it is opensource, you can get the source, make the changes you need and recompile it jester.gif
Sorry but "hacking" XBMP doesn't look to me as a great idea (because i respect the work these people have done !).

I've done the same Perkele on my PAL Xbox and it works fine with R1 and R2 DVD's.

I wanted to play them in progressive scan (I have the video mode set to NTSC and 480p enabled in the dash) so I downloaded the Progressive Scan patcher but I don't know how to actually apply the patch with this program.

I open up a command promt window and get -

C:Documents and SettingsHitcher>

So how do I find and run the program from here?

Sorry for not having a clue.

Also, how do I tell what dash I've got?
