Ok very very new to all this mod stuff.

Few questions for anyone who would be kind enough to help out a fellow X'er

1. I want to put in a mod chip and are looking at X-Ecuter and The Matrix
which is better? I already know about the ease of install of the Matrix, but I mean from a user interface standpoint, reliability

2. When modding my X-box will it be the same like I never even changed anything and just now it will play DVD/R media as well as ORiginal games too?

3. WIll Xbox live work now with the modded chip?

and lastly, IF I go the upgrade HD route, will this affect antyhign for my box. I want it as original as possible, no boot problems or compability issues if you know what I mean.

THanks team

The only other thing that the Matrix has over the X-ecuter is the fact that you can flash a new bios. Other then that, and the no-solder, they perform the same basic functions.

Yes, you can make it appear "stock" if you want to. Just leave everything how it is after you install the modchip

Yes

Adding the upgraded harddrive just gives you room for putting games and apps on the xbox, and not always having to load them from CD/DVD. The only thing you have to remember is that if you want the ORIGIONAL bios to RECOGNIZE the HD, you must LOCK it.

Thank you for your response.

So what benefits can I expect to gain with a NEW bios over the old?
and any drawbacks to this?

Also how do I "LOCK" the new upgrade 120gb HD?

this doesnt really answer your questions but i noticed you asked about Live. before you install Live, take a look at the pinned thread on the Xbox Live section on this forum. a lot of people have been careless and have messed up there xbox by not doing some research. and id also really recommend the matrix chip. ease of install, and you can always upgrade it with whatever new features come out.

The benefit of the new bios is that it will allow you to run unsigned code. i.e. backups, media players and emulators. There are no drawbacks to replacing the bios, it's just when you install the evolution-x dashboard that you can run into problems with xbox live.

As for locking the HD, there is a tutorial here about it.

blackout_19 is correct...

In addition, if you want to know exactly what each and every bios does why not check out the comparison page from the main page?

Ok guys so what Bios does the X-Ecutor come with after all and is it any good? I don't really see myself 'upgrading' all the time, I usually leave something alone if it works great for me.

Besides this is what I think I will do...

X-ecutor Chip with on/off switch
Evo x Software
120 HDD 5400 HD drive swap...

I was told that I need Evo-X to make this all work.
I found out just how many steps it took do Burn a Xbox dvd..forget it, The HDD route is much easier.

I am saving my Original Xbox HD just in case I need to go back original
what do you guys think..
