Hello all

I'm using the latest release of XBMP (24th Aug), one of the quirky things is that it will play some MP3's and not others. I then tried other builds with these MP3's and it still wont play.

Have checked what I think are the obvious :

1. Filenames (all 8.3 format)
2. Bitrate (all 160 - 192kbs)
3. Loacation - doesnt matter if on the HD or a SMB Share

bit it still wont play most of what I downloaded.

The strange thing is that it may play 1 or 2 tracks from an album but not the rest.

Is there an MP3 codec that may have been used that isnt XBMP compatible?

If so how do I check? and what should it be recoded to?

Any Ideas? blink.gif

Thanks

I too have had the same problem and posted a month or so ago with not much help.

The mp3's that won't play over Relax thru xboxmediaplayer will play in Winamp though so I am at a loss for what the problem is.

Waiting to see if anyone will answer.

I had a similar problem, i couldnt ftp certain mp3 to my xbox, that was due to the file name being too long.

Xbox can not read files that contain certain characters such as , '
It can also not read files that have 42 or more characters. Please re-check the files you are trying to play and make the appropriate changes.
Try a search for what characters xbox can not read as I am not sure of all of them. I know that it can't read ' or , because they are fairly common.

Try renaming your mp3 file or movie file to File1.mp3 or File1.avi (in the case of movies) and see if it plays then. This should either verify or rule out a file name issue.

Erm.... guys....

In my first post I put this....

Have checked what I think are the obvious :

1. Filenames (all 8.3 format)

That means they are in the 8.3 format... its old skool.... but I'm like that....

No strange characters or anything like that.....

I think it may be something to do with an MP3Pro codec being used, but I'm still trying to get to the bottom of it...

Also it makes no difference if they ae a SMB share or on the HDD....

Thanks for your help tho...
