Someone already posted a guide on this, but I thought I'd mention my source for "silver conductive paint"

You use it to create the 4 solder bridges on the motherboard to enable TSOP writing. However rather than soldering it on with a burning hot solder, you just use a tiny paintbrush and paint it on. Increadibly easy. The bottle I ordered was tiny (it held about a thimblefull of paint) but the bottle will definately go a long way. It set me back $15 including shipping.

Hope this isn't considered SPAM

nope, not spam... but $15 is enough for beer and a pizza - I already own a solder iron, so - if you don't like beer and pizza, it might be an o.k. solution beerchug.gif

NOPE SOZ - no-one owns or even wants me biggrin.gif

uhm the paint is ok - used a similar thing to quickly bridge a blown fuse on an old crap 100x psx - it still worked - the fuse on the controller ports had gone and couldn't be arsed for what it was worth so just used this paint

not best solutuion for fixing fuse but on a cheap old psx it was worth the risk

however - a tiny dot of solder is even cheaper

have posted a kinda tutorial on better & bigger points to use for ver 1.0 & 1.1's using 2 link wires - which is nice if you wanted to fit write protect/flash tsop switches

but what works best for you - as long as it does the job - that is the main thing....

though - on the paint i used with a small toothpick to apply to the psx fuse - it said wait a little while before applying power to the heated windscreen - funny I thought I was repairing a psx ???
oh well if the psx had of blown up I could of used the psx to scrape my car windows in the winter is what I thought

just a note for those thinking of using conductive paint...i just did a tsop job last night for somebody and used my conductive pen...except the pen was clogged and I had to open it. upon seeing gobs of the ink in there, i decided to dab it on the points silver paint style. I got the flash not writeable problem, so I went back and tried it again...this time I used a metal point to scrape a little at the jumpers before painting them together. this got my flashing working.

so yeah, people have mentioned it before, but there is a thin layer of plastic sealant stuff on mainboards that if not properly dealt with might cause contact problems with just painting it on. when I used the pen, I probably scratched the stuff away enough. but just wiping with isopropanol didn't seem to be enough to remove the layer. so if you paint, I'd recommend using a small pointy metal object to scrape a little on the jumpers to make sure there is an exposed conductive surface on the point.

There's probably lacquer on the board.
You can scrape it, you could also try nail polish remover, perhaps.
(Bizarre train of thought: lacquer -> hair lacquer -> hair spray -> nail varnish -> nail varnish remover)
