Isn't there anyway to get this file using your pc dvd drive or dvd/rw drive or pc, without using an xbox and a network connection?!?!?

if its a copy/backup thats been burned as normal udf and not xdf/xiso/etc then you can.
if its an original or its a backup thats been made as a true xbox image then the answer is no

so far xbox and ftp is the way to get that file unless you got it from net in pieces.PC dvd-rw drive won't rip everything. it will only rip media type files. most default.xbe files are around 4Mb so if your firend has the file for particular game, you can either save it in usb flash drive or put it in cd-rw. I am not sure if default.xbe file are the same for all game, I saw the file size varies depends on the game.
